1996 Jeep cherokee XJ 4.0L high output v6 4x4 5 speed manual About 201,000 miles PA inspected till May 2019 This truck is going to need work and will need to be TOWED. ENGINE IS STRONG AND HEALTHY. Aside from being in cosmetically rough shape, it has an issue where after about a half hour of driving, the gears get harder to shift into and then impossible to shift into. Though, once the Jeep is turned off, you’re able to shift again. Also, due to it being old and reverse being a non synchronized gear, it grinds if you don’t shift to a forward gear before entering reverse. Reverse is still fully functional. I believe that the progressively tougher shifting issue ISN’T the transmission or clutch, but rather the hydraulic clutch line is getting air in it once the fluid is hot and fully circulating. This is a simple and fairly cheap fix, but I would rather sell it due to my own circumstances. The body has dents and paint has patina but the body and frame are free of serious rust. Floor pans have some rot, but the previous owner put in new floor pans in the front. It is extremely fun to drive this Jeep because it is the less common 5 speed AX15 transmission that can also be found in the YJ Wranglers. I’m selling it as-is. Local pick up only!
