Mercedes 1983 300 Turbo Diesel A Classic Automobile Comments: We are the second owner. This is generally driven every day in the summer and many days in the winter. Mileage is 288212, but it will go up a little because we are still driving it. Here are the specifics on what it needs to be made perfect. The shutoff valve is not working, it needs to be replaced. There is a stop lever under the hood and that is what we have been using. The brakes are obviously working because we are driving the car, but the dash light is on and there is some noise when applied so they need to be done. The vacuum hoses also need checking and replacement as needed, but again, they are not interfering with the ability to drive the vehicle, mostly it is just an annoyance that they are not all working. Radio/cassette deck works. A/C does not work, but it appears it might just be a leak. Heat is excellent, wipers are fine, tires are in very good condition, sun roof works fine. All electric windows work, the rear driver side makes a little noise. Tires are very good. Acceleration from a stop is very slow, but once going it purrs along and sometimes you forget yourself on the open highway and find you are too far above the speed limit. Starting in the summer is very quick, it has been getting very difficult in the winter when the temperatures in New Jersey drops down below freezing. Probably new glow plugs would be the answer, or perhaps the winter starting is related to the slow acceleration, via timing. Transmission works but it is hard, typical of the earlier Mercedes and most probably due to the vacuum hoses which help smooth out shifting. The seat covers are not included, but rest assured the seats, front and rear, are in excellent condition. The glove compartment latch needs some work. The glossy wood finish console is better than most of this age. Even with these issues, we are currently driving the car nearly every day, but admittedly, fixing her up and making her run without the issues is the way to go. This is a classic, commonly referred to as the car of steel because it is really built to last - a car that most agree is one of the longest lasting cars Mercedes ever built. The body is as you see it in the photos, we do have the missing piece of chrome on the passenger side, it was knocked off in the parking lot where we live. We have tried to cover all the issues, but since the vehicle is being sold with the above issues and there are no returns or complaints, please ask any questions prior to purchasing and we will respond promptly. Once the issues are resolved and perhaps some good paint, this would be a real special car.This is local pickup only, although you can arrange your own shipping.
