Vehicle Detail
I need to clear out a few more cars from my collection so I'm selling this 1971 Volkswagen Karmann Ghia convertible. I purchased it last summer from the original owner, who bought it on April 20th, 1971 from Thomson Volkswagen in Morristown, New Jersey. He drove it until 1994 when it was parked in his garage. It sat there until last summer when he sold it to me. He was moving to a house with a smaller garage and didn't have room for it. Overall it's in decent condition. It has some rust but the body is very straight. It looks like the nose as never been hit. The car appears to have been repainted once in the original L50E Adriatic blue, which is a pretty uncommon color. It will be a great restoration project because it's a very complete, original car and everything works. it would also be a fun summer cruiser with a little work if you want to go that route too. When I bought the car, it hadn't run for a couple decades so I did a bit of work to it to get it on the road. I flushed the fuel tank, rebuilt the carb, installed a battery adjusted the valves, changed the oil and gave it a tune up. I replaced all the flexible brake hoses and the left rear wheel cylinder to get it stopping again. I spent some time cleaning grounds and replacing bulbs, etc to get the lights, wipers and horn going again. It starts easily and runs pretty well. The automatic stickshift transmission shifts smoothly too. I've driven it around the block a couple of times but the tires are so old and dry that I was afraid to drive it any farther. The right front goes flat every few weeks. The car does have some rust as I said earlier. There are some bubbles in the rockers and above the right headlight. The floorpan halves will need to be replaced as well. On the inside, the front seats are torn up and have some covers on them and the carpet is missing. The convertible top is obviously in pretty bad shape. I suspect that the front header bow will need to be replaced because the top doesn't fit the windshield frame very well. the glass back window is in good shape though. I wish I had the time to restore it myself but I have too many projects. I've done my best to accurately describe the car and take pictures that show it's condition, because I want the new owner to be happy with it. Overseas buyers are welcome. I am happy to help with local transport. The car is located in Arvada, CO. If you have any questions, please email me or call 303-332-5014 during normal business hours. Thanks!
