This matching numbers 1960 BMW R50 is likely a final year model based on its identification number. BMW reportedly produced 13,510 R50's between 1955 - 1960 before beginning production of the R50/2. This bike looks very nice with tank, fenders, headlamp bucket and shock covers repainted at some point in it's history. The rear fender shows some areas that have been touched up and it looks like it used to have a fender rack or pillion seat at one point. There are no dents. The frame appears to be wearing original paint in mostly good condition for its age. Some cracking and chipping is evident, but does not detract from the bike's character. We have completed a health check report and cleaned it. There was bad gas in it and some rust is present on the bottom of the tank along with remnants of the cork gas cap gasket. Added fresh gas. Installed a new battery. The bike starts, runs and idles well, but maintenance history is unknown. We only ran the bike briefly to verify condition, but recommend full fluids replacement, tuneup and slinger service prior to continued use. Our full report is available to interested customers. Although this bike is being sold as-is, we are a fully staffed, BMW Heritage Restoration facility and love to work with customers on their projects. We are able to provide any level of service from simple coaching and advice for do-it-yourselfers, partial component overhaul for people who need help with the more technical areas, or complete concourse quality turn-key restorations.
