Vehicle Detail
Up for sale here is a 1976 MG Midget Convertible. My father bought this car 5-6 years ago in hopes to fix it up a little, and drive it in the summer once in a while. His health has taken a turn for the worse, and I (his son) have finally convinced him that it should go to a better home. He has owned it for the last 5-6 years, and in that time I have always made sure to start it every month or 2 just to keep it lubricated. We have put less than 40 miles on it in 6 years. The miles are actual, and the odometer works accurately to the best of my knowledge. If you are looking for a show car, this car would need a complete restoration. If you are like my father and just looking for something fun and different to drive around once in a while, it wouldn't require much work. I have know experience with MG's, but the brakes feel soft to me. They work, but not as well as I feel they should. Other than the brakes, and recommended fluid changes, there is nothing that I know of that would stop you from enjoying this car as a casual driver. The car was originally green, but painted red sometime during its life as well. The good: This car would be excellent for a restoration project. You would have a great foundation with a running and driving car. This car comes with a lot of "xtras" in the trunk that include: original radio, seat belts, rear view mirrors, parade top, and rain top (see pics). For being almost 40 years old, the car really looks pretty good. The interior shows some where, and the exterior has a few rust spots. The tires are 6+ years old, but still have excellent tread, and don't seem to be flat spotted. In the past 5-6 years this car has always been garaged. The previous owners since atleast 1990 always kept it garaged as well. The bad: soft brakes, wear and tear, rust spots, chipped paint, battery holds a charge, but the alternator seems to be out. If you charge the battery it will start for a few days, but then be dead. I assume the alternator needs to be replaced, but I have never looked into it. We have the ignition key, but the trunk seems to take a separate key that I cannot find. It may be in the vehicle somewhere, but I haven't found it yet. The trunk is "open", but needs the key to be locked. There is also one small tear in the convertible top, and it has a cracked windshield. A electric fuel pump was also installed at some point in its life, and the muffler sounds louder than it probably should. I have tried to be as honest as possible. We have owned the car for a number of years, but other than charging the battery, checking the fluids, and driving it around the yard a few times, we don't know much about it. I don't know how much of the car is original or aftermarket. If you buy this car, you are buying a project. How big of a project is up to you. Please ask any questions you may have. I will answer them to the best of my knowledge. Title is clean and clear and ready to be transferred to the new owner. This vehicle is being sold "as is-where is" with no warranties by the seller.
