Vehicle Detail
As pictured, a very clean 1982 AMC Spirit D/L Hatchback. 92,500 miles. 258 6 cylinder 3 speed automatic column shift. White original car has been repainted in white with nicely done red and blue striping. Original blue interior. Has factory A/C but never tried it. Tinted glass, AM/FM factory radio, no rear window defroster. Driver and passenger side remote mirrors. Clear Maryland title. Starts, runs, idles, drives, and stops fine. Very nice matching Goodyear Assurance radials as pictured. The Gremlin style hubcap look was installed by the previous owner but is not original to a Spirit. I bought this car in 2011 from an AMC enthusiast. He had done all of the maintenance work and significant restoral and was using it as a driver and participating in AMC shows (new shocks, tires, brakes, filters, leaf springs, vacuum lines, hatch support struts, wipers, etc.) I drove this car home 25 miles and put it into dry indoor storage. Have now lost my storage space so decided to sell. The paint job is quite good overall. There are a couple of areas where it feels like overspray is present and you should be able to improve this overall to a 9 out of 10. As pictured, the interior shows some wear and some of the plastic trim pieces (“A” pillars and rear around hatch) have cracks and material missing. Replacement “A” pillar trim in tan provided (easy to paint to match blue.) Driver side plastic sun visor mount broken; replacement driver and passenger side sun visor metal rods provided. The tilt mechanisms on both front seats need work. The passenger front seat belt buckle is broken. Dash is excellent as pictured. Rear seats like new; seat fabric needs redone on front seats as pictured. Interior stays dry and has no stale odors. There is no structural rust or floor plan rust visible underneath. Inner and outer rockers look great. Catalytic converter still there. Exhaust good. The Iso-clamp bracket on the left rear leaf spring has rust through as pictured but this does not affect the mount. There is some oil leakage around the plastic valve cover. These valve covers were prone to warping / cracking and leakage; we are providing a replacement valve cover. There is also some weeping of transmission fluid from the pan gasket and some coolant seeping up front. The windshield has no cracks but has a couple of tracks on the driver side made by old wipers. This car could be restored further to show quality, used as a driver and local show car, or be the perfect candidate for a race conversion.
