Vehicle Detail
Barnfind Ford Pilot V8 Woody The year 1951 is estimated. The UK logbook says it has been first registered for public use in 1954. VIN 7263713Recently discovered at a carpenter workshop. Dry stored since 1977. The previous owner bought it in the seventies in the UK, brought it home and started the restoration. As you can see he has not worked on it since 1977.The wood looks usable and the vehicle looks to be for 99% complete. Og leather interior intact and shows some patina. Bakelite dash looks ok as well. 4 hubcabs, spare wheel, chrome front bumper with overriders, og headlights, glass and window winders, doorlocks and mechanisms, hood ornament and trim, 4 og fenders, even the ignition key is still present. Even the og. toolset and jack is still there. The og UK nr plates from 1954 are also still present. The og V8 engine still turns by hand and is not blocked. It looks like we found out almost its complete history! Other: woodieguyuk sent a message about Ford : Other 6 door Pilot Woody "shooting brake" Hi Maurice,Your woodie as far as i know was owned back in the 70s by a man called Larry Peyto.I first saw it at a classic car show in 1975 and remember it was tan in colour.I had heard that it had gone to a collector in the Netherlands. The V8 Pilot was built at Dagenham, between 1948-51 and could be bought from the factory as a complete chassis/cab, in other words a complete car with running gear but with only the bodywork up to the front doors.(including the rear wings) As Ford did not offer a factory estate car at the time. After all this time its difficult to find out much information as to how many were built, but no two are the same as these were built by many small coachbuilders all around the UK.Some, like yours were built with metal front doors and others like mine with wooden front doors.Yours i would guess has always been a woodie as it was first registered in 1954.V8 Pilot production stopped in 1951 but the factory probably had several chassis/cabs left over hence the reason why yours was registered so late.It would make a fantastic restoration. My car was in very tatty but running condition when i bought it, i did drive it home.I would never sell it as its been such a big part of my familys life for such a long time.Keep in touch and i hope you restore it !!Kind RegardsColin
