Vehicle Detail

1972 Ford Galaxie 500 in fairly decent condition for its age, runs smooth and is NOT smoking. Clear Title, titled in my name. The car is an unmolested and unmodified original with working factory Air Conditioning. Car has Power Steering, Power Brakes with Disc Brakes in the front and Drum Brakes in the rear. The only non-original part of the car is the radio and 3rd brake light in the rear window. This is NOT a show car and is not restored, but is a good looking car for its age that is not filled with bondo or mismatched parts - this can be made into a driver without a tremendous amount of time and cost. I pulled the tires off to check the brakes - the rear drums are original and have a yellow paint stamp for the date of 1-20-1972. This is a car that you can fix to either drive, restore or you can strip for parts if you choose. Video: My poor attempt at a video on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=cFgXE8WXmVI I talked to the previous owner, the car was garaged up until 1998 when he purchased it with 98,000 miles. It has 124,000 on it now. I don't know too much about Fords as far as production or desirability of this car, but if I were to find a similar condition Chevelle or Nova, I would be happy to find it in this good condition. What I can tell you about the car, erring on the side of caution, so I am presenting as honest as possible and pointing out anything negative that I noted:Car seems to have the original 351W in it with 2BBL carb. with most of everything from the factory still there (some electrical wires aren't connected to anything in particular though);Car runs smooth, but I have not driven it far, other than up and down the road about 1/4 mile; The Air Conditioner surprisingly (at least to me) works and blows cold; The Interior is in really nice shape, with only the small tears on the drivers side of the front seat as seen in the picture;Car appears to have been repainted or touched up in spots (right front fender has some cracks in the paint); The rear brake shoes are still good, but it needs front pads (which I may put on, because I will keep the car if it doesn't sell). The front rotors still look good and the rear drums look fine, but I didn't mic them to see if within specs. The horn works, wipers work, headlights (both high and low beam) work, reverse lights work, turn signals work, brake lights work, interior dome light and dash lights work. The tires have good tread, but can see weather cracks between the tread. The hub caps look great, not all dinged and dented. The front passenger does have a minor scuff mark. The car looks a lot better in the pictures than it does up close: - the paint is not perfect, it is faded, has discoloration - there are spots of surface rust, there is a a rust hole over the passenger side rear quarter dog leg; - the lower part of the drivers side quarter panel has a rust hole and metal is thin from rust on the back side; - the hood has rust holes in spots and seems to need a new hood; - the trunk floor and floor pans are solid; - there are some small dings and dents in the fenders and quarter panels, but body is overall straight; - the vinyl top is torn in many places; - the gas tank had a pinhole in it (found when I put some gas in it), so I prepped around the area and epoxyed the hole and surrounding area and the gas stopped leaking, not sure if that is a permanent fix or not, but have done it to both a fuel tank and oil pan on one of my tractors and it has held for several years now). - I put a new fuel pump on it today (4/30/13) because after flooring it going up the road, it starved for gas and cut out. Then would fire up after cranking it over a few seconds. It seems to have fixed the problem. - The washer wipers work as they are supposed to, added washer fluid and worked great. The car has not been licensed or inspected since 2001, so it has been sitting for some time. I got the car about 4 years ago and towed it to the farm and it has sat behind the barn since then. After fixing the above noted gas tank issue, I took the carb. off, cleaned out the nasty gas, cleaned the jets and venturi holes, then put it back on. I poured some gas in the tank, dumped some transmission fluid down the intake, installed a battery, and started cranking. I cranked for a while, then sprayed carb. cleaner down the intake. It fired, sputtered, and then finally ran on its own. I ran it at idle for about 30 minutes, then drove it around. The brakes are touchy, the rear tires spin easy (but not posi, it's one or the other), and the car is approx. 4,000 lbs (as someone pointed out to me it is the GVWR that is over 5K), but big car non the less. Per request, I took a picture of the tag that was under the hood that is attached to the wiper motor and that is included, along with the door sticker.Per request, I took pictures of the front carpet with the large floor mat removed, looks good. And added pictures of the Drivers and Passenger door panels - they are in great shape. Also took pictures of the A/C control switch - it is factory A/C and works fine, blows very cold. Feel free to call me or email me with questions. Car will be for sale locally, so I reserve the right to end the auction early if the car sells before the auction is over. I am willing to ship up to 400 miles for $2.00 per loaded mile, but depends on my schedule. Thanks for looking.
