Vehicle Detail

This is the automatic Honda CB750A 4 cylinder that still has the original single cam motor.- it does not even have a clutch lever. Just go. It has been sitting inside a garage for several years, but it was a fine- running bike when parked. I think the carbs will need a rebuild although the gas was drained. It has all original paint in very good condition and not really any significant damage at all. A few scratches and very small dings- see rear fender.. Seat is excellent, too. It will no longer need a battery, because I just put a new battery in.. This is a rare bird now, and one of the only automatic bikes ever built. Beautiful burgundy with gold stripes are all original. Nothing missing and everything is totally stock as far as I know. Bike turns over with good compression. Will need very minimal work to be riding. I am located in the Cincinnati area just on the east side of town. No reserve! Ok, I bought a new battery and it fired right up, but it would not take throttle very well so it does need a carb rebuild. It idles just fine- smooth idle, and is running on all 4 cylinders. I will pull carbs and ck floats, main jets, float level, needles, etc. I cleaned out the gas tank and ckd the petcock and fuel line- they are good.. By the way, the front tire is good, and there is no rust on the rims because they are alloy rims. Rear tire is worn out in the center from long distance in a straight line,so it needs a new rear tire soon.. Here are 3 new pictures- one with the seat, tank, and carbs off showing all stock wiring etc.. Another shows inside the tank and the other shows the carbs ready to rebuild. Well, I finally had enough time to work on it today, as I have been very busy, and we have not had a warm enough day until today when we reached about 50 degrees.. I found that the petcock was not flowing enough gas and cleaned it out- flows fine now. I pulled the carbs and did a quick cleanup concentrating on the main jets which had some constriction, making it leaner.because the holes were actually smaller from deposits built up inside the jet holes. I opened up the main jets to their correct size. I charged the new battery and it electric starts instantly and every time. I have never even had to look at the points, and they are not corroded apparently at all. The way it fires up instantly indicates to me that the timing must be right on. I adjusted the float levels and made 2 too rich causing slight overflow. I can take the carbs off , flip them over without even having to remove the throttle cables and have all the float bowls off in 10 minutes now that I have done it,.Now that temps have reached 50 degrees the first time in over a week, the carbs are very easy to push back onto the rubber intake boots because the rubber begins to get flexible at 50 degrees. A hair dryer works below 50.degrees. I will have to pull the carbs again and readjust the float levels. I drove the bike down our road about a mile and back with no problems, and the bike ran fine taking throttle and running on all 4 cylinders.Bike handling is fine, and feels just like a normal 750 Honda. I am still having an idle problem- I think the idle jets and air/fuel screws need adjusting, and they also may have some deposits built up inside them although they were all clean when I sprayed carb cleaner through them. Also I am driving the bike without the stock airbox back onto the bike, because it is hard to get the boots of the airbox reinstalled, so I am only going to do that once after I am satisfied with the carb tuning. Bike ran strong with full power. Both gears work- you can start out in low and manually shift to high for a quicker takeoff,or you can just start in high and leave it there. I was able to stop and sit with the bike in gear at a stop sign and then you just give it the gas and the clutch engages by itself just like a modern scooter- properly and right away with no excess slippage at all- it feels just like a normal clutch except you don't have to do anything.. There is a rattle at very low rpm's- under 500, which sounds like it is from the clutch area, but that goes away as soon as you get up to minimum normal idle speed of 1000 rpm's. Motor runs perfectly smoothly on all 4 cylinders, and the bike took half to 3/4 throttle smoothly now that the main jets were clean. Sounds quiet and sounds just like every normal Honda 750 -smooth with no cam noises or valve ticks. Unfortunately, tomorrow we are going back into winter with 6 to 8 inches of snow, so I may not get it completely fine-tuned, but now I can say the bike motor, clutch, and transmission are sound. Bike needs a new front tire becaused it has cracks- it is a Dunlop Gold Seal from at least 20 years ago. Rear tire is pretty well worn down. Both hold air for now. Chain seems fine and this bike will be readyto go with a little more carb work and the airbox reinstalled.
