Vehicle Detail
Rare 1993 Saab 900 Commemorative Edition Turbo - 99K miles Offered for auction is this 1993 Saab 900 Commemorative Edition. It has just under 100K on the odometer and a clean CarFax report. This car needs rust repair soon near the A-arm on the passenger side. It's currently runs and drives but I would not recommend using it much until that rust is fixed. I bought this car as a project with the intention of installing a Safe-T-Cap kit to fix the rot. But I have been too caught up with other projects to get to it so it needs to go before winter comes. I have other project vehicles lined up in front of this and don't want this sitting around any longer. I have not driven this car most of the time I've owned it. So I recently dusted off the cobwebs and have been driving this car locally. It starts and runs without any funny noises or smells. And it has no issues with warning lights. It doesn't seem to leave any noticeable drips on the driveway. It feels solid and drives like a real Saab. The cruise control even works. For a twenty year old car, this is a good looking, unmolested car. Other than the rust I mentioned underneath, it has great paint with only has a few minor blemishes. There's a little paint chip on the roof in front of the rear hatch, a small ding on the driver side rear quarter. It is starting to show a little rust along the rear passenger side edge of the hood. But otherwise this car is remarkably straight and good looking for a 20 year old car. I've tried to show the known blemishes in the pictures but some don't show up very well. And the interior is pretty clean for a car of this age. The dash has cracks. It has some stain marks on the drivers seat. The rear headliner is just starting to droop and the sunroof headliner is drooping. Otherwise it's pretty clean and complete. The pictures will describe it better than I can. This was the last year of the classic 900 3-door models. Personally, I think this was the best version 900 classic Saab coupe ever sold. Like all of the 1993 900CE models, it's black with a tan leather interior. You can check out the specifications for this limited edition Saab over at saabce.com. This model comes with the desirable, rare red APC box and was the highest rated horsepower stock 900 classic. And of course, it has all the standard Saab stock features like power windows, locks, seats, heated mirrors, etc. A plus is that for a classic Saab, it has pretty low mileage at under 100K. I would really like to see this car go to someone who knows these models, understands what this car needs, and appreciates them for what they are. But because this a twenty year old car, I am selling it as-is and where-is. I offer no warranties regarding serviceability of function for this car. So I highly recommend inspecting the car out in-person before making a bid so you know exactly what you are bidding on. I started this with a low opening bid and a reasonable reserve considering the rarity and condition of this car. And sorry to have to say this, but I've had a few unpleasant experiences with car buyers over the years on eBay. If you win the auction, you bought yourself a car. You did not win the chance to come to try to negotiate a better price or for any extras. By bidding, you are agreeing you must complete the sale per the terms of this listing. The winning bidder is responsible for picking up the car or to arrange for shipping. If shipped, the auction winner agrees to pay all costs for shipping. A $500 non-refundable deposit is required within 48 hours of the close of the auction via PayPal. And full payment must be made with 7 days. Please ask any questions about the car or sale conditions before bidding. Good luck... On Sep-30-12 at 06:25:16 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE: NEXT BID SHOULD MEET RESERVE I tried to remove the reserve. But since there are already bids it cannot be removed. So the reserve has been lowered so the next bid should meet it. On Oct-05-12 at 10:34:12 PDT, seller added the following information: UPDATE II - IMPORTANT UPDATE 2 IMPORTANT: Two newly discovered problems found since the auction started. 1. The car leaks power steering fluid badly. I had not noticed that the power steering fluid was very low. When it was refilled, it leaked back down to the same level within a couple of days leaving a big puddle of fresh fluid under the car. 2. One of the cables on the driver side seat is broken so the back does not operate properly. For those familiar with this car, this is the problem where the plastic cable guide breaks which lets the cable back out so you cannot adjust the backrest. Only one side wants to move. It's a relatively easy fix but should be mentioned. And as long as I'm here. I'll respond to a few of the more common questions being asked. These pictures were taken on 9/14/2012 so they are fairly recent. The power windows operate correctly but not really fast. They're a little better than average for what I have seen on most of these cars but not as new. Both power mirrors operate in all directions. The sunroof works well and does not show signs of leaking. The AC has a sticker saying it's been retrofitted to R134a. It blows colder than the outside air but not ice cold. It may need a recharge or it may need repair. And again, interested bidders should inspect the car themselves before bidding. It is too late to do so after the auction. This car is twenty years old and is known to need rust repairs as mentioned above. It is being sold as-is, where-is with no guarantees regarding functionality or serviceability. On Oct-06-12 at 09:47:14 PDT, seller added the following information: Update III (last one hopefully) Nothing bad this time. I just forget to mention I have some of the original paperwork to go with the car like the Owner's Manual, Warranties and Services Record Booklet, and radio cards. It also comes with two spare keys. Also, I've had a few people come by to inspect the car now. And I just wanted to share that they all have said, when asked, they thought my description of the car was honest. If anything, I probably concentrated too much on the problems and not enough on what's good about the car. You just don't see very many of these classic 3-doors in this kind of unmolested shape with this low mileage anymore. I'm really hoping the person who ends up winning the auction is someone who loves and appreciates these old Saabs. They are probably going to spend about $1,000+/- after the auction repairing the rust I described in the front and fixing the few minor mechanical problems like the leak in the power steering. Plus you should spend a few hours using a rust treatment like POR-15 to coat the light rust in a few spots on the underside to stop it early. With that investment, you will have a very solid, good looking, and rare classic Saab that should last many, many years with proper care. And yes, black Saabs do rule.
