1983 S-Class MercedesBenz 300SD Turbo Diesel This car has no rust that I can find. Underside had undercoating and no rust. Wheel wells have no rust. I can not find any rust on this car. 4-Door Sedan W126 Chassis Exterior Color: Anthracite Gray Interior: Black Leather This is a non-smoker's car since 1985. Engine: Inline 5-Cylinder Overhead Camshaft 3.0 Liter 123 H.P. Bosch Mechanical Fuel Injection. Transmission: Console Shift, 4-Speed Automatic. Equipment: Automatic Climate Control Power Steering Power Seats Power Door Locks Power Windows Four-Wheel Disk Brakes Power Sunroof Automatic Antenna Cruise Control Becker Gran Prix Electronic Radio Alloy Wheels Leather Interior Power Sun Roof Price New in 1983: $34,000 History: This car was purchased new in 1983 from a Colorado Springs Mercedes dealer. In 1985, my family purchased the car in Denver from the original buyer. In 2010 I purchased the car from the family member who bought it in 1985. In 2011 this car was on a three-month display in the Forney Museum of Transportation in Denver, Colorado as a fine example of a 1983 Mercedes-Benz Diesel automobile. The car has been well taken care of. But in 29 years, some minor issues have come up. Here is a list: Both vanity mirror covers have come off and the lights on each side of the vanity mirrors do not work. The covers were flimsy plastic, and unlike most well-engineered MB components, they failed (please see photos). The visors work fine. The outside mirror on the right side no longer operates from the positioning knob on the console. (You can hear the positioning motor run, and sometimes the mirror moves a bit.) The leather panels at the top, center of the rear seat back have parted slightly, stretching the stitching, apparently due to shrinkage of the leather. The seams were covered with electrical tape for the museum display (please see photo). Both front doors have small dings (please see photos). The tachometer has not worked since we have owned the car. Sometimes the needle swings while driving. The radio station display no longer shows the station, but the radio works fine. The bezel around the ignition key is missing (the mechanic forgot to replace it when the ignition switch was replaced, and we didn’t notice soon enough.) The good news: The sun roof works fine (please see photo). All glass is original. The radio works well. The automatic antenna works fine. The original first aid kit is included (please see photo). The original tool kit is included, but we don’t know if all the tools are there. Some of them have “Mercedes Benz” on the forging. The tires are acceptable. The air conditioner needed recharging this year (2012), and I had it converted to the modern R134. It works well, even in 100 degrees f weather. The original owner’s manual is included. The clock was rebuilt a few years ago and runs fine. The car has Clear Title. The odometer works and showed 137,652 actual miles on July 25, 2012 when the photos were taken (see photo of odometer). The power seats work. The power locks work. The power windows work. The car has been garaged as long as we have owned it, since 1985. The car is in good running condition. It has never been in any kind of accident The interior is well preserved. Recent maintenance done by a non-dealer Mercedes shop (it has worked on Mercedes-Benz automobiles for more than 20 years) on 22 March 2012: Adjust valves and replace valve cover gasket. Change motor oil (7 quarts of oil) and replace oil filter. Service transmission, replace 7 quarts of ATF, replace transmission filter, and replace transmission pan gasket. Convert air conditioner from outdated R12 refrigerant to modern R134 refrigerant. Evacuate AC system, replace air conditioner receiver dryer, add 3 lbs. R134 refrigerant, add AC dye (to check for leaks - none found), replace AC temperature switch, and replace AC pressure switch. Replace aging thermostat bypass hose. Replace aging fuel return hoses. Replace 2 hose clamps. Costs of this maintenance: Parts: $595.95 Labor: $965.00 Misc. (rags, disposal of old oil, etc.) & Tax: $63.92 -------------- Total: $1,624.87 The odometer reading at time of the above maintenance was 137,480. Current odometer reading at this time, 6 August 2012, is 137,670, and I have not found any problems with the car since the maintenance was done. The car isn't perfect, but when a prospective buyer considers the car, how well it has been treated, that it has no damage history, other than some minor dents and scratches (do a CARFAX on it - the VIN is in the listing), and that it has been garaged all of its life, it is an incredible car for $3,900, especially considering how long diesel engines last and the 25 MPG mileage for a big car. It has had annual emission checks, as mandated by Colorado law, and has never failed one. The car isn't perfect, but I believe it is in excellent condition. (No warranties are expressed or implied.) I'm not a dealer, only a private party selling an extra Mercedes-Benz (I'm a fan of the marque, and I have one too many). The car has a block heater, but I've never had to use it. A file of maintenance records will be provided to the buyer. In response to a prospective buyer's query about rust in the wheel wells or on the bottom of the car, I went out to the garage with a flashlight. I discovered that the car has an undercoating that I didn't realize was there. The original buyer must have had it done, or the dealer had it done. No way to know for sure. After purchasing the car in 1985, when it was 2 years old, Carol and I didn't have it done. (Carol was originally on the title, then in 2010 I took title because she had another car and didn't want to carry insurance on 2 cars). I can see no rust on the bottom or in the wheel wells. For a 29 year old car, I attribute this to the fact that it was always garaged, the underside is protected by the undercoating, good steel used by Mercedes, good Mercedes construction, and unlike cars that live in the "rust belt" of the nation, here in Colodrado, we are in an arid area with an average low humidity and only 14 inches of rain per year. Although the car has been driven in rain, and it is periodically washed at a self-service wash facility, the parts of the car that aren't towel-dried (the bottom and the wheel wells) dry off quickly, and apparently, rust doesn't get a chance to start. Here’s what happens when the buyer decides to purchase the car: To purchase the car, the buyer makes a $500 down payment by Paypal within 48 hours of purchase. The buyer then pays the remaining amount due by cash to me, in Denver, Colorado, within 7 days of auction close. If the buyer does not wish to carry cash, we can go to the buyer's bank or the bank with funds in the name of the buyer. I will transfer the title and provide a Bill of Sale. I must get a diesel emission test and provide it to the buyer so that he/she can get the car registered. Motor Vehicle says that the test must not be more than a few days following the sale. I must get a temporary sticker for the car from Motor Vehicle Division because the plates stay with me. The vehicle must be picked up within 7 days of the sale date. Local pickup is fine. The buyer is responsible for any shipping arrangements and costs. 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel 1983 Mercedes Benz 300SD Turbodiesel
