Vehicle Detail
This listing is for a 1978 911 SC Targa. There is NO RESERVE, which means that this car goes to the highest bidder - no exceptions! Please be sure you are ready and able to buy before bidding, as your bid enters you into a binding legal contract to purchase if you are the winning bidder! This well cared for classic vehicle has only 69,000 miles, and is an absolute joy to drive. This 911 starts without hesitation, runs and drives just as it should. This car has been professionally maintained and garage kept, and it gets tons of looks and compliments everywhere it goes. This car has all of the VERY expensive upgrades that Porsche lovers like to see; SSI Stainless Steel Heat Exchangers, Dansk Stainless Steel Dual Port Exhaust, Hydraulic Carrera Chain Tensioners, Short-Shift Kit, Cross-Drilled Rotors, K&N Filter, and 17” ATP Wheels with NEW Kuhmo Performance tires all around. The car also comes with lots of original goodies like the jack, spare tire and tool kit. The combination of history, look, and sound from this 911 is absolutely unbeatable. Body/Exterior This car is 100% rust free. There is no surface rust on the body, and no rust in any of the typical Porsche places: The battery box/suspension tray, floor pans, rear torsion bar area, door jambs/rockers, and the bases of the windshield and rear window, are all completely clean. I would've uploaded additional photos of the underside of the car, but ebay only left room for the one. This car has been well cared for and parked indoors at all times. The exterior of this car is in nice, presentable condition, and the H4 European Headlights and all fiberglass Whale Tail really set this 911 apart from the pack. The paint is a beautiful metallic Petrol Blue. It appears a bit more teal/turquoise in person, but is mostly blue. The car was repainted a few years ago, and the finish does not show age. All of the trim is in very nice condition, and the wheels look practically new. The Targa top was professionally rebuilt around 8 years ago and is in excellent condition, as you can see in the photos. The car does have a handful of minor blemishes, as you would expect from any car which has been driven and enjoyed. The worst of which are some scratches on the front bumper. I had an estimate to have the front bumper repainted and blended for only $470 from the best (and most expensive) body shop in Pittsburgh. You can see the scratches in the last photo, which I took indoors to highlight them. They do not look nearly this bad in person/daylight. Interior The interior of this 911 is mostly original, and is presentable and functional, but does show some age. The front seats were recovered with cloth (a big plus for those days in the summer sun), and look very nice. The seats adjust correctly, but the seatback release levers do not function properly for easy access to the rear seats. The dashboard has one crack on the right/passenger side. The original carpeting is tired, and has some Lloyd mats which are a lighter color in front of each front seat. Both door panels are in ok condition, but are missing the pockets, as you can see in the photos. Maintenance The maintenance on this car has been meticulous. The 911 had the same owner for the past eight years. Within the past 2,000 miles, the car has received: - Replaced 915 Transmission with used model which has 68k miles, and shifts great with no issues or weak synchros whatsoever - Completely Rebuilt pedal cluster with new bushings and hardware - New crank shaft seal - New Alternator with upgraded internal regulator - New Starter - New Kuhmo tires which fit perfectly and absolutely do not rub. The car has a rare, excellent alignment, and feels well planted and balanced under all conditions - New oil change with less than 300 miles The car also had a complete top end rebuild about 8,000 miles ago. I have all of the service records for this car covering the last eight years. They will be included with the sale of the car. Options/Electronics This car has minimal options (in my eyes, a positive for a 34 year old car). It has manual windows, door locks and seat adjustments. The car does have power mirrors which work, and the original VDO clock still keeps accurate time. All of the gauges work properly, except that the tripometer is stuck (the odometer and speedometer still work just fine). All of the wipers, lights, and other functional items are in good working order. The car is equipped with a Blaupunkt Cassette/Stereo which is currently not connected. This car was originally equipped with AC, but the condenser and compressor have been removed. All of the lines for the AC are still intact, however, for easy replacement if you want AC. The hood and deck lid shocks work great. The car does have a couple of things that could use repair if they’re important to the new owner. The door locks do not match the key I have. Since the car is always kept indoors, this has not been an issue for me. The driver’s side window regulator needs a very slight adjustment. It goes up and down just fine, but it takes more effort than it should. The door catch on the driver’s side is broken, so opening the driver’s door has to be done with some care. Overview This car is a great opportunity to get into that awesome low mileage, well maintained, reliable 911 you’ve always wanted. It is a rare chance to find a driver’s car with low mileage, zero rust, great upgrades, and excellent maintenance, without the concourse quality price tag. Other 911’s with this condition and mileage are selling for thousands more. Details The car has a clear PA title in my name, free of all liens, and ready to transfer to the new owner. A $500 Paypal deposit is due within 24 hours of sale. The balance of payment is due within 10 days of sale via certified check, wire transfer or cash in person - NO EXCEPTIONS. Pick-up or shipping of the vehicle is the full responsibility of the buyer, but I am happy to meet your shipper to load the vehicle at a mutually agreed upon time. Full payment must be cleared before vehicle pick-up. Please ask any/all questions before purchasing this car. If you would like to speak via the phone or see the car in person, please send a message to me with your phone number, or send a request and I will provide mine. Thanks for your interest!
