1974 PORSCHE 911 Targa 2.7 w/ Whale Tail--Fuchs rims NEW INTERIOR--CD Player-A/C THANKS FOR JOINING US. TODAYS AUCTION CONSISTS OF: 1974 PORSCHE 911 Targa sports car. This is the 2.7 engine, the same as the previous bumper generation. Manual transmission, 5 speed. Zippy, fast and fun, with that killer air-cooled sound and that Supercar Poster look. Contrary to popular belief, there is very little actual weight difference between a 1973 and 1974 as this later version was lightened significantly in other areas to make up for the heavier bumper design. You get basically the same experience (and all the admiring glances) without the ridiculous price tag the pre-74 cars have. Later versions and SC models got heavier and slower, but these 74's were anything but heavy and slow. Actually they have some of the fastest 0-60 times of any vintage 911. In addition, the Targa models were some of the safest 911s, as the the aluminum covered ''hoop'' over the cabin is actually a high-strength roll bar. Full seatbelts all the way around, front and back. Being a Vintage Porsche means it will always go up in value. Targa top gives you the best of both worlds--convertible and hardtop. The top folds up on hinges (in thirds) to fit into the (front) trunk. Brand new upholstery on both front and back seats, professionally done with super high quality materials. Brand new windshield, stereo and speakers. Vintage aftermarket steering wheel. New solid billet aluminum shift knob, with a nice heft to make the long-handle shifting feel sublime. All brakes just completely re-done, including rebuilt (original) calipers and braided lines. Brand new front struts, and brand new battery. Factory A/C unit with factory-installed vents and blower. CD player, great speakers. Front seats recline, rear seats fold down for extra stowage (very handy). Odometer shows approx. 81461 miles but stopped working about 9000 miles ago. The 911 has brand new tires all the way around. This car is partially restored. I planned on finishing it but a new baby and too many projects mean this one will have to be someone else's dream car. Here are the things it could use: The battery drains too quickly, I think it could use a new alternator although it could just be a wire. I've not had time to narrow it down but an easy fix. There is low compression on one cylinder. It runs and goes fast and is fun, but I can hear it missing, especially at low revs, so it probably needs a seal or something like it. At it's age I would consider a rebuild to regain all the original horsepower and clear up the various oil leaks it has (like all old 911's). It's driveable, but there is one annoying leak that is right over the exhaust that tends to smoke. A rebuild would make this car a spectacular machine. It is largely rust-free. There are small patches in the front battery area and on the other side in the same place under the bonnet, and some on a door (a new $175 door skin would fix that), and some bubbling around the antenna on the front fender. Other wise very solid--spent much of it's life in New Mexico, I believe. All panels line up, all bodywork straight. A/C needs recharged, but blower works. Tranny shifts nice, I don't feel any clutch problems. Brakes feel fantastic. Steering is tight, suspension feels great. Whole car has that ''carved from a single piece'' feel vintage 911s are known for. This car was painted Porsche black a long while ago--original color was called ''Mexico Blue'', sometimes known as ''Riviera Blue''--it is kind of a turquoise. Interior areas of trunks and engine bay were not painted so you can still see the original color there. Couple of dash cracks but nothing like all the ones you usually see in the vintage Porsches--no real need for a dash cover or anything like that. All interior colors still vibrant, doesn't have a washed out look at all. Carpets in nice shape overall. Climate control panel is cracked but system still works fine. Stereo sounds fantastic. Heater works great. Choke funtions fine, great throttle response. Handles like it should, feels very solid. Engine starts reliably. The targa top could use a little TLC. One of the latches is partially broken and could use repair, and the interior cloth panel could be replaced if you want it to look perfect. The top is still useable, but not as easily as it would be if the latch was fixed. I never used the top so it was not an issue for me--I only drove it on nice days! Rear view mirror needs to be reattached to new windshield (it's in the glove box). Has the desirable upgraded 11-blade fan on engine. Fuel-injected flat six, upgraded dual exhaust. OEM Whale tail added in mid-seventies, factory job. Rubber still soft and dark, no cracks. All marker and other lights fully functional. No visors. Brand new carpeting on back of rear seats. New windshield gasket and chrome trim. Rear package tray slightly warped--easy fix or replace if you want it perfect. Windows great, no cracks, go up and down with no issues. Front hood latch slightly wonky but works fine. New air filter, hydraulic hood struts, engine hood struts, seat knobs, and custom metal door-lock pins. Original Fuchs rims, aluminum with aluminum lugs--very desirable and cool. I was going to repaint and polish them but didn't get to it. An easy job that would make the whole car pop that much more. Original jack included. I will also throw in a Haynes service manual and a wonderul 911 project book. With a little work, this is a $20K Porsche. If you are interested in a vintage air cooled 911 that runs and looks great (you won't believe all the comments and stares--this car gets me more parking lot conversations than I ever thought possible) that with a little TLC could be a show car, this is the one for you. Check my feedback, you will see I do not exaggerate, and that I take care of my customers. This a personal sale. Please be sure to check out all the photos, and email with any questions.
