Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my super sweet 68 Bonneville. This bike is a very original survivor and catches attention at ever stop light. Still even has the original front tire on it (although I did replace the tube for safety). This is a later production 68 so it has the 69 TLS front brake and headlight ears. Paint is in fantastic shape with a small ding on the tank but that adds to it's original good looks. Numbers matched as it should be; this is the real deal. I have an original set of Bonneville waterslides that come with it. The original owner had requested the dealer remove them before delivery and purchased a new set to keep with the bike. These should not be used but merely are another great characteristic that adds to the bike's rich history. The original owner had also preferred the UK spec handlebars from 68 and had requested the dealer install those instead of the high bars. I did not get the original bars with the bike but originals and reproductions are readily available if you so prefer. I also have the original factory tool kit, which will also go with the bike upon purchase. The motor is strong and it always starts first kick w/a tickle of the amals when cold. You rarely see bikes from this era in such an unmolested state and have always felt that I was not the owner of the bike, but merely it's caretaker during this leg of it's journey. It's time to pass the torch onto the next owner. I hope he/she can learn, love and ride this great motorcycle like I have.,. I purchased this bike from the second owner in 2006 with 6800 original miles on it. The tach and speedo promptly broke the first year I had it so I removed them and set them on the shelf to avoid any further damage. I ride this bike approximately 50-75 miles a year so I would estimate the mileage to be at about 7200 right now. The speedo and tachometer will be included with the bike along with the original cables and factory tool kit. The previous owner had the motor rebuilt from the bottom up when he got it from the original owner as the seals and gaskets were leaking so they needed refreshing. Bike does not leak oil but like all Triumphs, it will eventually if you leave it on the side stand for too long. Battery came with the bike so I will include a brand new one with the purchase just to be sure it's ready to deliver many more great years of service. Ammeter does not work but I've never really looked into it as I don't feel it necessary. The original rectifier stopped working and has been replaced with a solid state rectifier as I've always fancied reliability. I even kept the original rectifier if you would like to re-install it for looks (if that's your bag). Obviously not perfect as it's 43 years old, but it is a damned fine example. Buy it and ride it, or get the gauges repaired and some US spec bars to bring it back to stock easily enough. Shipping will be provided and arranged by the buyer. I will not crate this bike as I once had some idiot stab his fork lift into the side of a scooter I had built and sold so that was the last time I will ever do that. You are welcome to pick it up at my house in Mankato, MN or have it shipped. Shipping is up to you, but I prefer Haulbikes.com as that's all they do so they do it well. I can deliver it the forward air terminal but I will charge $100 as it is a 200 mile round trip for me to make. A non-refundable paypal deposit of $300 is due within 24 hrs of auction close and full payment of the balance is be due within 7 days in the form of a cashiers check or cash. Once I have the balance in hand I will mail the title, gauges, keys, etc. Don't let this chance to own one of the greatest motorcycles ever made!
