"964" is used by Porsche enthusiasts to distinguish them from other generations of the Carrera lineage. The 964 was considered to be 85% new as compared to its predecessor, the Carrera 3.2. The first 964’s available in 1989 were all wheel drive equipped "Carrera 4" models; Porsche added the rear wheel drive Carrera 2 variant to the range in 1990. A new naturally aspirated engine called the M64 was used for 964 models, with a flat-6 displacement of 3.6 litres. The suspension was redesigned using coil springs instead of torsion bars, the first major engineering changes since the original 911. The front suspension used MacPherson struts, a system that has continued for all subsequent versions, but the rear suspension retained semi-trailing arms. Power steering and ABS brakes were added to the 911 for the first time; both were standard. The exterior bumpers and fog lamps became flush with the car for better aerodynamics. A new electric rear spoiler is automatically raised at speeds above 50 mph (80 km/h) and lowered down flush with the rear engine lid at lower speeds. A new automatic climate control system provided improved heating and cooling. Revised instrumentation housed a large set of warning lights that were tied into the car's central warning system, alerting the driver to a possible problem or malfunction. The Carrera RS is a super lightweight limited production rear wheel drive 964 variant based on the 911 Carrera Cup race car. When this car arrived in the U.S., we had a Porsche specialist perform the 30k mile service and inspection. The following were replaced or serviced: oil filter, fuel filter, spark plugs, all belts, brake fluid, idle control valve, and recharged A/C. Also, the car went thru a full detail and coated with ceramic paint protection to seal the paint from future contaminants. The exterior Satin Black Metallic original paint is still in excellent condition and is visually stunning. The brakes still have a lot of life remaining. The windshield and all the glass are original. All the exterior lights are in good working order. The rear power spoiler raises and lowers without any issue. The interior of the car is still in excellent shape. The powered comfort leather seats have minimal wear and do not have any tears. The dash is in very good condition with no cracks or warping. All the interior lights and switches function properly. This car is equipped with a lightweight flywheel which allows the engine to rev more freely. LSD (Limited-Slip Differential) was ordered as a factory option on this car and it helps with the torque distrbution of the rear wheels . If the state you are registering the car in requires smog certification, we can help you get the CARB certification for an additional fee. Since ROW 964’s were not originally intended for the U.S. market, a state like California requires CARB certification, which can be obtained without an issue.
