Vehicle Detail
A Rare Opportunity from The Vintage Motor Toys LLC Private Reserve I will not end this auction early for any reason. Up for auction from my personal collection, The Vintage Motor Toys Private Reserve, is my 1971 Suzuki T-500 R Titan. I purchased this T500 sometime ago as I felt it was an original, low mileage example that would be the perfect starting point for a complete, show quality restoration or could be enjoyed as is since it is overall a nice original example. Unfortunately, with so many motorcycles in my collection, I now realize I am never going to have the time to give this T-500 the attention it deserves. The frame number appearing on this Titan is T500-42228 and the engine number appearing on this Titan is T500-42228 making this a numbers matching, correct original example. The speedometer currently reads 9,423 original miles. The build date on the steering neck reads 7/71. I am convinced the new owner of this Titan is going to have an outstanding starting point for a complete restoration or could enjoy this Titan in its very original condition with some general maintenance. I would also like to mention that this Titan should not be confused with other examples offered by unreliable and amateur sellers who have limited knowledge about these classic Japanese motorcycles. Cosmetically, this T500 is very original. The fuel tank is a very nice original with no major dents (there are 2 small dings on the top right side of the tank-this does not detract from the overall quality of this example). The inside of the fuel tank is clean and shiny metal and is very clean. Because of the nice overall condition of this original tank, I think it would be a shame to repaint it. The side cover is present and does not have any visible cracks. The oil tank is also present and in nice original condition matching the fuel tank. The original seat is in outstanding original condition featuring a very nice original seat cover that would be acceptable on a restored Titan. The hard to find rear grab bar is also mounted with nice, original factory chrome. The original front and rear fenders are present and the front fender does have a rub mark near the front. The original chrome chain guard is also mounted in the correct location and is a nice original. The correct rear shocks and air box /intake assembly are also mounted in their correct orientations. The air box boot could use replacing as it is cracking from age. The original headlight bucket as well as correct headlight bulb and fork ears are also present and in nice, usable original conditions. Correct front and rear turn signals as well as the original tail light are also a nice feature of this T500. The original handlebars appear to be straight with very nice original chrome and feature correct and original handlebar switches as well as the correct hand grips. The correct gauges are also mounted and in very nice overall condition. The wheels are clean, correct and match the rest of this Titan. The tires are not original and were replaced at some point. The original exhaust pipes on this T500 are in overall very, very nice condition. It would be difficult to find an original and solid set of T500 pipes like these and this is one of the main reasons I targeted this particular example. The exhaust on this T500 are solid with no major dents or major visible damage. They also do not appear to have any visible major scrapes or other damage and also feature good, original factory chrome for their age. These nice and very difficult to find original exhaust are very presentable as is or could easily be re-chromed to show quality with minimal effort because of their nice condition. Mechanically, this T500 has not been run or on the road for years, thus it’s low mileage. It does turn over very smoothly with excellent compression and in my opinion is no doubt mechanically solid but will be needing some general maintenance/tuning/restoring that should be performed on all old motorcycles. The original carburetors are present and will no doubt need cleaning and setting. Also, I would recommend new spark plugs and setting the ignition points and any other general maintenance as recommended by Suzuki. The engine and engine area as well as the carburetors are also very clean and correct. Overall, this is a very original and low mileage T500 that has been parked in storage and off the road for some time. This Titan could be enjoyed as is or would be an outstanding starting point for a complete restoration. I also of course have a clear title for this T-500 in my name. This Suzuki T-500 is ready for international export as well and the title matches the VIN number exactly.
