Vehicle Detail

Ok....straight to the point...if you are NOT looking for a 2 Owner (fresh new car store trade-in)modified HHR with $1000s and $1000s of dollars into the parts list and labor list....this SS is NOT for you! Those who can appreciate the base value and rarity of a 2009 HHR SS 5-Speed....please keep reading!! NO RESERVE means ABSOLUTE SALE on this one of a kind powerhouse!I have started with the pics of the clean engine compartment and underside of the vehicle to point out the obvious mods. I have also gone into specific detail in the 50+ pics below. Please read this ad from top to bottom. Anything I know about the vehicle and it's mods are listed based on what I see with my own eyes and experience. As per chevyhhr.net:Production Numbers for the HHR SS were 7,980 units during it's ENTIRE production run!Of those, 2,559 SS units in 2009 and it is unknown how many manual versions vs auto versions were made. Under the hood lies the pile of goodies that only internet racers dream of owning and have never seen in person. I'm sure that comment alone will draw out the the internet racer "talent" from all corners of the states! My "shtick" round these parts is the 2.3 Turbo Ford scene...that basically I created because it was non-existent....in fact...I'm the guy that hurt LOTS of V8 owner's feelings. Altho I'm on hiatus on the newer stuff, I can appreciate how much time and money goes into a build like this. Read on..... After some research, I figured out the MONSTER turbo on the car is of the Holset variety. What I could not pinpoint was the exact version. The tag has peeled off in the EXACT spot on the Model #. Plus it's so tight in there, all the lights and mirrors couldn't help me see. All I can tell you is that the 4 INCH inlet lets tons of air in, and the atermarket intake (to factory intercooler) plumbing accepts all that pressurized happiness to the tune of 20+ PSI without a hitch. 3 inch Mandrel bent downpipe Stainless exhaust flows straight thru a resonator then to a muffler to the bumper. Here is where I insert my findings as far as tuning and issues: Driving the car, it felt like the spark was blowing out under high boost. I pulled the Iridium spark plugs and installed the most basic plugs I could get my hands on to keep it simple...it literally takes 10mins to swap plugs....no reason for the fancy long life stuff. Set the gap at .030. No more spark blowout. BUT!!...it seems the blowoff valve has too soft a spring in it as it seems to consistently pulse pressure into the atmosphere under high boost....in turn losing power. Hence...blowoff tuning is needed. Welcome to the aftermarket world of gofast!! Here's the cold hard truth: I drive ALL my vehicles to ensure their reliability. No engine knocking. No smoking. No noises...in fact it fires right up runs smoothly. I drove the car for about an hour the 2nd time driving it a long period(logging nearly 100 miles total over a few days), putting it thru it's paces. Boost. No boost. 80mph cruise on highway. 30mph putz off highway. No problems. Logged about 30 miles one way. THEN....on my way back....temp slowly rising in the aftermarket digital display. No immediate worries because the regular gauge was fine. Then it wasn't. Long story short....my diagnosis....small weep in the head gasket. It will need to be replaced. ZERO contaminated oil. ZERO milky residue on the oil fill cap. In fact the oil is clear as new. Overflow tank slowly fills with coolant (then sucks back in during cool down as it should). Shove my nose into the tank as best I can....exhaust fumes....yet no fluid exchanges. Turbo is just too much for the stock setup. Anyone that has squeezed power from stock stuff knows this result. You can drive this vehicle no problems for a testdrive or even home to the local area if you buy local. Just can't go much further than an hour away. Add that to a teeny tiny small radiator leak. Someone installed shiesty seal trying to stop it. SHOCKER....didn't work. So....the radiator needs replacing but it's so small that it doesn't leave anything on my shop floor overnight. When I picked up the vehicle....I put it thru what I could in a short time....no problems. No coolant loss or burning. Again...no amount of experience would have caught it unless an hour long testdrive was performed. MY LOSS YOUR GAIN!!New radiator: item #171706740400 $47.55 FREE S&HNew head gasket: approx $95 Cometic MLS is the way to goNew Head Bolts: approx $25. Studs would be a better choice but cost more.Obviously labor is the factor here. But still under $200 in parts to fix. Do the math....try to hunt down ANY 2009 HHR SS 5-speed and build it from the ground up.....get buried in it. Or....buy this one and fix it over the weekend and a 12pack of beer with a buddy after the parts come in. No brainer. Note the dryness of the underside of the drivetrain. No major oil or coolant leaks to be found. No spots on my shop floor overnight. Unseen in this hulk of power is the aftermarket clutch setup. No, I don't know a brand or "stage" but I can promise you on my feedbacks that there is a monster version installed as I have done plenty of clutch upgrades over my 16 years in business. I have sold many manual shift Saabs (one listed now in fact) and know what a stocker feels like. This HHR clutch has a short stroke AND it's either locked-in or not...feels almost like a heavily sprung puck type versus a round disc. Super grabby and never slips...ever. Once you get used to it, the vehicle drives just fine. Transmission shifts as it should thru every gear all the way to redline every time. Underneath.....you can CLEARLY see the poly motor mounts. What does this mean?? You gotta put all that happiness to the ground, right?? It does this very well. BUT!!!....it also brings buzz....whine....and all the other power related items that GM was trying to hide from you back when the car was bone stock. You may irritate the neighbors....especially when you wind it up and the wastegate decides to release more air than any crotchrocket within a 10 mile radius with it's near 2 inch diameter dump pipe! Of course a tubular header feeds the Holset turbo and a beefy bracket holds it all in place. You can see the stellar 3" stainless exhaust with resonator from the turbo back to the tip. There seems to be a wideband O2 sensor which ties in with the RealTime info panel shown below. Nope...probably won't pass emissions as I searched high and low for a Cat-Converter. Reminder: we are NOT responsible for YOUR state's inspections/emissions compliance! Shockingly, the exhaust expulsion doesn't make my eyes water like the typical unconverted should. Note...no engine light comes on...someone tuned the car to run without throwing the light. Reminder....the time and money involved to acquire this result. Above you can see the fully adjustable coil-overs at every corner. Also sports some newer lower balljoints. No slop or play in any of the front parts. Altho stiff, it doesn't ride like a brick at least. In fact...I pulled .89 Gs on a highway ramp without a hitch (according to the on-board gyrometer seen below pics). Another thing to note below, the solid floorboards and rocker panels that typically rot on these cars. Now that we have all the drivetrain details out of the way....onto the awesome exterior! The 2 owner AutoCheck shows no accidents but the vehicle shows signs of a repaint. It's a nice job but to make it as perfect as possible, some spots could still be wetsanded and an entire buff. Typically after a paintjob, it can continue to cure(dry) demanding further detail. Or you can just leave it as it still looks great as it sits since silver is one of those colors that always looks fine! I can only assume the body suffered from typical GM surface rust under edges of doors, etc, hence the repaint. I have provided a shot of the edge of a door to show that they were fixed and repainted. Front and rear bumper covers look great. No damages or chunks missing. Minimal typical rockchips on the hood and nose. Ground effects show no signs of damages or repairs. All the exterior illumination works as it should including the driving lights. Headllight lenses are nice and clear with no fading. Front tires are worn on the inside edge and probably should be replaced soon. Car drives nice and straight with no unusual pulling or wandering over any pavements. Rear tires look recently replaced. All tires ride on nice clean vibration free rims with minimal scuffs or blemishes. Having the Brembo front brake calipers, It's hard to inspect the pads, but my finger says about 50% pad life left. The rears look to be recently replaced. Brakes work perfectly with no grinding or pulsing. Tight and strong. Above you can see the tiny chip in the windshield. Body is super straight and smooth. I can count on one hand the dings to be found. I tried to point the 2 main ones out in the picture above. Dentbusted if desired. The interior is an easy 8+ nearly 9 out of 10! Minimal wear on the carpet. No stains. Driver's bolster has minimal wear. No damages to the leather seats, trim, panels or dash. Steering wheel and controls look amazing. I HATE smoke and can't see or smell ANY signs of a former smoker. Headliner looks great. Even the shift knob/boot looks great, controlling the perfectly tight/smooth transmission thru every gear. Above and below you can see ALL the dummy lights illuminate upon startup with NONE staying on during run except the typical Tire Pressure indicator light. I tried to do the proper setup but when I got to the right rear, it didn't seem to read the signal. Most likely a bad sensor. I prefer to do it the old fashioned way and air up the tires with my own tools. ALL the power items seem to work as they should: sunroof, cruise, steering wheel controls, windows, power driver's seat, ICE COLD AIR CONDITIONING, Hot Heat, AM/FM/CD Player, ABS/TRAC control, etc! Parking brake works correctly too. Super Duper Awesome center dash display panel!! Sorry for the blurry pics. On the fly boost readings, real time O2, Cam Phaser Angle, Spark Advance/Retard, Real Time Torque/Horsepower, MPH, G-force right/left graph, Constant Coolant Temp/Inlet Air Temp/Fuel Pressure....all just a turn of the knob! Surely a high dollar piece...don't forget the installation cost on this as well. Information: Priceless. G-force readings above make corner's fun again! It's neato because it resets everytime you restart the car. 6 disc in dash CD Changer and HD Radio operates perfectly with the Pioneer Rear Factory installed Subwoofer. Rear seating looks never sat on. Rear cargo area and storage panels are intact with the hidden spare setup. Bonus is the dealer installed rear carpet cargo mat. Sadly the manuals and floormats are missing. Unseen is the one factory key and 2 factory keyless keyfobs, one works perfectly, the other needs a battery. CLEAN CLEAR TITLE and Paperwork in hand ready to go! Please inspect my excellent feedbacks. Do the research as I'm sure you will....there is a ton of time and money in this vehicle and plenty of years and miles left as well. Obviously worth every penny saved buying it as it sits and worth fixing. Bid, Buy and Drive this car with 100% CONFIDENCE!! NO RESERVE!! GOOD LUCK!!PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE AD AND THE CONTENTS BELOW!!PLEASE REMEMBER: This vehicle is a USED vehicle, NOT NEW, used. Specifically a 7 year old car with 142+k miles.
