Vehicle Detail
Up for no reserve auction is the family's 2001 Ford Excursion Limited with the 7.3L Turbo Diesel. This truck has been part of our collection for over 6 years. It has been very well maintained and used. It currently has 263261 miles on it but you would not believe it. It starts runs and drives better then when new. This truck has many upgrades that improve drive-ability as well as reliability. I would not hesitate to jump in this Excursion and drive anywhere in the country, in fact we usually do just jump in and drive. The drive train is the heart and soul of this truck and with all the upgrades it certainly adds even more ability and dependability to the 7.3. This year is of course the final year before they added powder metal connecting rods so it is already desirable. This one has been built to drive for miles and miles. Below is a list of mods that have been added to the engine. Amsoil bypass oil system. This system filters down to 2 microns and actually is capable of filtering the soot out of the oil. This filter kit allows for extended mileage between intervals but just over stock intervals were still maintained. It has always had Amsoil full synthetic diesel oil. You can actually pull the dipstick several thousand miles with this filter and it will still be gold. External magnetic transmission filter. This filter is changed every oil changed and really helps keep the fluid clean. Also the fluid in the transmission is Amsoil synthetic as well. Diesel site coolant bypass filter. There is a lot of information online about this but essentially casting sand gets into many of the passages in the coolant system and can wreck havoc on seals and bearings. This prevents any of that from happening. Diesel site inter cooler boots. These are good for preventing failure from the weak failure prone stock ones. Hx mod high pressure oil equalization line. This helps to balance the high pressure oil between both heads for a smoother idle and better balance of the hpop system. 203 degree thermostat and housing. This is actually a higher temp thermostat that aids in the combustion process and provides more power for the 7.3 Twin optima red top batteries. Good for those cold hard starts. Power Hungry Performance programmable power chip. This is the tuner that you can actually select the various tunes on the fly. It functions very well and is very safe for these engines edge evolution tuner. This is actually used as a monitor as the egt sensor is hooked up to it. So you can monitor all the important parameters. Full 4 inch turbo back MBRP exhaust with muffler. Nice tone without the loud drone. Keeps those exhaust temps low for towing. There is also quite a bit of maintenance on the drive line that has been performed. All fluids are now Amsoil synthetic. The rear differential has had the additive put in to prevent chatter. The transmission has been changed to Amsoil synthetic and changed every 50000 miles. The air filter is changed every oil change. The fuel filter bowl has had an updated o-ring kit installed. The coolant reservoir was changed over to a new one after developing a leak. The stock high pressure oil pump was changed out to a brand new oem unit after the external plug actually popped out. The alternator is an aftermarket unit and has been changed out three times to actually get one that outputs proper voltage. There has not been a problem since. The camshaft position sensor was recently changed to the updated part number from Ford and several extras are in the glove box just in case. The glow plugs were changed out with new updated Ford units along with the updated under the valve cover harness that typically has issues. The engine is the original and has never been opened up for anything. The turbo is actually the original unit and still spools and sounds like new. This truck runs and idles very smooth. It does not hesitate or even skip a beat. It is very powerful and fast for a big suv. Runs down the highway averaging 20 miles per gallon. The tuner is kept in daily driver economy mode. It has never been raced or towed anything very heavy. There is no other vehicle you can buy that can haul this many people in comfort and economy. It has been used for many trips and never disappoints or even hiccups. It was intended to be a reliable trip vehicle and it really shines. Suspension. There are quite a lot of great upgrades for the suspension of this vehicle. It was actually built up to haul a nice camper trailer but needs changed and it just ended up being the family vacation vehicle. Rear F-250 Heavy duty springs. The factory springs are very weak and saggy on these excursions. It leads to really bad axle steer and low payload abilities. With these springs installed on the rear it allows you to haul almost anything you are willing to hitch to it. These are very labor intensive to install on an excursion so the hard part is done for you. Rancho 9000 adjustable shocks all four corners. These are very nice shocks. You just reach behind the wheel and dial in the setting you want. You can firm them up for hauling a big trailer or soften them for the long family trip Rear Hellwig sway bar. This really helps the wandering that the excursion can be famous for. This is a very nice feature for hauling trailers too. New Red Head steering box. This is another big upgrade for the excursions. This company gets all of the free play out of the stock box and upgrades the internals for a very long life. There is no play now in the steering wheel. All new front end components. The front tie rods, sway bar end links, and ball joints have all been replaced. The tie rods are new Ford units and the end links and ball joints are Moog problem solver units. There is no free play or clunking from the front end. New rotors and front wheel bearings. The rotors had a slight brake shimmy so they were replaced with new ford units and Timken bearings. No corners were cut on making this truck capable. It looks very good underneath and steers and handles well for a large suv. All the components are designed for many miles and should last the new owner for a while. The interior. The interior is nice and clean. All the seats are in great shape with no tears or bad leather spots. There are a very few spots that need re-dyed from normal wear but nothing is even close to being cracked or worn through. It has always had leather cleaner and conditioner on the seats. The stock stereo has been replaced with a pioneer touch screen unit that is actually linked with the rear TV screen. You can enjoy dvds instead of the old vhs. Back up camera is also installed and linked to the head unit. It also has a small powered sub woofer wired up in the rear and new pioneer coaxial speakers in all six factory spots. All lights and switches work. There are a few imperfections and stains but nothing to be too concerned about. The exterior. The exterior is in great shape for its age. This vehicle is 15 years old but does not look like it. It does have some light clear coat peel on the passenger door and some scratches and chips that are normal for the mileage and age. It has been regularly washed and waxed. It has spent most of its life under a car port. It has been in south Georgia most of its life and was in South Carolina before that. It is now in Texas so there is no rust anywhere. The roof rack is fully functional and works great if you run out of storage inside. The front lights have been replaced with hids in both headlight and fog light locations. There is no real damage or problems to speak of. The tires are in good shape but will probably need replaced in the next 15-20 thousand miles. There are a few minor issues to speak of on this truck. The clear coat on the passenger front door is peeling away in one section. The roof has a few dents on the passenger side above the front door. The Wheels have some clear flaking off and need a good cleanup and polish. There are various scratches in several locations that look like they can be buffed out easily. The front passenger fender needs the pinstripe installed. A few spots on the doors have been rubbed through from the weatherstrip as well as the back doors, this is a very common issue with these excursions. I am really picky when it comes to vehicles and just like to let others know everything possible. Again this truck has been very well maintained and taken care of. It is great to drive and haul anything you desire. With the added reliability to the already super dependable 7.3 you can be sure that this will get you wherever you need to go. This excursion actually belonged to my parents. I owned a shop back in Georgia that specialized in 7.3L and 6.0L diesels. I built a 6.0 F250 that I fully bullet proofed and installed many mods to make very reliable. I gave that truck to them and now we have decided to sell this one. It has been very useful and dependable but no longer gets used. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions you may have about the vehicle. I welcome test drives and inspections.
