Vehicle Detail
1959 Chrysler Windsor Hardtop Coupe Hard to find model Drive or restore No Reserve Auction Up for bids is this rare 1959 Canadian-Market Chrysler Windsor. 6,775 Windsor Coupes were made for '59, and of course just a fraction of those were built in Ontario, making this car an even rarer find. This car was restored in the 1970's and is starting to show some age. As a longtime member of the Walter P Chrysler club, I just couldn't pass this up, even if it's a little cosmetically challenged. If you're a fan of Virgil Exner's Forward Look, you already know that you can't be too picky when you happen upon a hardtop or convertible from this era, there just aren't that many left. Click to enlarge any of the images, OR click here to view a slideshow of all of the enlarged images. The car was originallly Ivory White with a Highland Green insert, now it's all Ivory White. The paint is driver quality but presentable. There's been rust repair along the rockers and trunk, photos of this are shown further below. Panel fit and gaps are very good; the doors, trunk lid and hood close precisely. The body is straight with no dents or damage. Tires are a matching set in 225/75/14 with good tread and no sidewall checking. All of the trim is complete and intact but shows some dings and damage in areas. Lights and lenses are in good condition. The Canadian Market cars featured 3 crown ornaments on the leading edge of the doors, replacing the Golden Lion badge that was used on US versions. The bumpers are for the most part pretty straight, good candidates for rechroming but usable as they are. All of the glass is good with no chips or cracks, although the inside of the windshield has some scuffs on the passenger side that will need to be polished away. Trunk has been finished and is presentable, all of the car's weatherstripping is pretty decent. The interior was done in the 70's and looks that way. It's great if you're partial to ABBA or the BeeGees, but either way it's showing some age. The swivel seats were an option for Windsor's in '59. All of the gauges work except for the clock and gas gauge, the car will be delivered with a full tank. Heater and fan work but the radio and horn do not. Ignition tumbler requires the right touch to start the car. Dash pad is in good condition. The velour upholstery is serviceable but the back seat requires mending up top. You'll be glad to know that the car runs and drives very well. Starts quickly (with the right jiggle of the key) and runs strongly. Smokes a bit on startup but none once underway. The 361 V8 produces good power and the TorqueFlite shifts right on time. Handling is good and the car cruises along comfortably with no issues. Shows stable operating temperatures and great oil pressure readings. Really a pretty good old car. Floor pans are original, but the undercarriage shows some metal patching to the rockers and trunk. The frame is entirely solid and has no issues, the exhaust system is in good condition. Click here for a slideshow of all of the enlarged images.
