The 'V' stood for 5-speed, and the '76 model was the first left-shift Triumph imported to the USA. The '76, '77, and '78 T140V are mechanically identical. '78 was the last year for the T140V and first year for the T140E. The 'E' stood for emissions, and had to do with updated engine breathing, as per USA EPA regulations.
