Up for bids is this 2007 GL320 CDI. This vehicle was towed to our shop with a complaint of loss of power while at speed. Inspection revealed that the cams were not moving. Further inspection revealed either the timing chain or tensioner failed, causing the pistons to strike the valves, ultimately resulting in engine failure. This vehicle is not running and is not driveable. This vehicle will need extensive engine disassembly and repair or a replacement engine with a good used or rebuilt unit. Prior to the engine failure this had been a well-maintained vehicle. Purchased by the previous owner as a certified pre-owned vehicle from the Mercedes dealership in Tennessee, it was covered by an extended warranty and exclusively serviced by the dealership. The tires appear to be relatively recent replacements showing good tread depth. Additionally, though the vehicle is not running, the air suspension stays up even when sitting for a long period of time. This was a heavily optioned GL, finished in cubanite silver over black leather interior. Though not the entire list some of the options include rear seat entertainment system with DVD, navigation, parktronic with reverse camera, multi-contour heated seats, push-button go with keyless entry, xenon lights, running boards, dual sunroofs, close assist cargo door, towing and off-road packages. In addition to needing an engine the vehicle shows the normal wear and tear of a 135k mile vehicle with various scuffs, dings, scrapes, etc. Additionally, the windshield has a crack in it towards the bottom. However, this vehicle represents a great opportunity for someone with the connections or means to acquire a good used engine, to get into a potentially very nice GL at an exceptionally low price.
