Vehicle Detail
1976 Chrysler Newport Custom Two owners from new 73K original miles Super survivor car For what it's worth, this is probably the best '76 Chrysler Newport on the planet. Local Portland car, 73K original miles, all original paint and interior, the car looks close to showroom new. I bought this car from the original owner last December, I was looking for a daily driver to replace my '37 Dodge (another story) and found this car on Craigslist. It fit the bill perfectly. Aside from being almost 40 years newer than my previous car, it had power windows, a great heater, and was one of those untouched originals that seem to be getting harder and harder to find with each passing year. The proverbial Grandma car (in this case Grandpa), it's been a pleasure to own and I've put about 3000 trouble free miles on it. But now I've upgraded once again, this time to the 90's!, so this very nice Chrysler is ready for its next owner. Click to enlarge any of the images below, OR click here to view a gallery of all of the enlarged images. The cars wears all original paint and it shines like new. Still glossy with no fading or checking, it's held up beautifully. The body is rock solid with no trace of rust anywhere. No bubbling, no blistering, zero rust problems. Never hit or bumped, the body is arrow straight with only a few little age-related imperfections scattered about. Tires all have good tread, all 4 hubcaps are in great shape. All of the trim on the car is in super condition with no pitting or tarnishing. The bumpers have never rechromed, they are excellent originals, still looking great. This is the type of car that can hold up to close scrutiny. Lights and lenses are all in great shape. All of the car's glass is original, including the windshield, it's all in terrific condition with zero damage and no hard water spotting, simply crystal clear. The vinyl top it still tight and sound, there's no lifting or problems from underneath. It has a few small scuffs otherwise it's like new. Trunk is untouched and carries the factory jacking equipment. The trunk seal is original and still water tight. After a winter's worth of rain in Portland I can vouch that this car doesn't let water in anywhere. The interior is truly a time warp back to the 70's, for better or worse. I happen to think it's fantastic and most folks that ride in the car agree. Seats are in great shape with no wear, the carpet shows a little pilling in front but is sound with no fading. All ashtrays and lighters are unused. Steering wheel has no cracks or splits, all gauges work correctly except for the clock. Every power accesory functions correctly except for the cruise control and the rear defrost. As mentioned, the heater system in this car performs well, and all functions of the climate control work correctly. The compressor clicks on when you engage the A/C but it is not blowing cold. Of all the ebay descriptions that say it just needs a charge, in this case I believe that's probably the truth. Radio works, as well as the horn, wipers, signals, etc - no problems to chase down. All interior lighting works, power locks work, 6-way power seat works, remote trunk release works, power windows all work. The car has seatbelts for six. I've taken a couple road trips in the car with 5 adults and everyone was comfortable. Dash top and face are both like new with no splits. There's a bit of wind whistling from the driver's side wing window, my only gripe. Being a hardtop, when the windows are down the interior really opens up. Back seat and parcel shelf are like the rest of the interior - mint. Instead of Rich Corinthian leather, this car was ordered with Rich Corinthian...cloth? Sorry, probably only makes sense if you're over 40. Beautiful headliner and all four door panels are in excellent condition. The car runs and drives very well, it's been a really easy car to live with and is a great daily driver. Fires up easily every morning and runs strong. Starts on the correct fast idle when cold, I like to let the old gal warm up a bit before taking off and then she's ready to go. Cruises down the road with a nice solid feel, the 360 motor provides plenty of power and the car is great on the freeway. Lots of nice original details throughout the engine bay, there's no substitute for a low mile car. Incredible undercarriage with no hint of rust or damage. Original muffler and exhaust hangers, virgin sheet metal and pinch welds. A true relic from the 70's. Click here for a gallery of all of the enlarged images.
