Vehicle Detail
1959 El Camino Project Rare factory color combination 348 Big Block, M21 4 speed No Reserve Auction Being relisted due to a non-performing bidder. Please, please, please think things through before you bid, it causes a lot of lost time otherwise. Up for bids at No Reserve - a desirable 1959 El Camino. This car has been sitting for over 20 years and will need a complete restoration. Aside from being a first-year example, this El Camino has some other things going for it as well - it carries a 348 big block and was ordered in the rare color combination of Satin Beige over Cameo Coral. The car is remarkably complete and if you can look past the rust it's exceedingly straight. There's no such thing as an "easy restoration" but I believe this one offers a good starting point and is definitely worthy of being brought back. Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page. With the exception of the aftermarket grill all of the trim is original and still in good shape with very little damage. Both of the "California" bumpers are straight and true, good candidates for rechroming. Panel fit is pretty good, both doors still latch closed precisely. And now for the bad part - rust - expect to find lots of it. There's folks out there that are true wizards at metalworking, I'm not one of them. All 4 hubcaps are terrific with zero dings, rash or damage. Tires are old but still hold air. The car rolls and steers freely. The windshield and rear glass are both very good, the passenger side door glass needs replaced. The only door glass that I could get to move was the driver's side wing window, the rest are pretty stiff. The hood emblem reflects the 348 option: The V was added for V8 cars, the crossed flags on top signify the 348. Original WA plates, last registered in '82. Both plates are included. Pretty straight bed and sides. The gate opens and closes easily, the lower well area is still fairly sound. Latches and hardware are all present. Underside of the wings are holding in there. Floors needs to be replaced, as well as the steering wheel. Driver's side door panel has been painted black for some reason, I have the front and rear trim pieces for the missing armrest. Back shelf features a quaint terrarium. Gauges and switchgear are all complete, right down to the factory radio. Originally a column shift automatic, the car now has a M21 4 speed. Clean WA State title from 1980. The cowl tag confirms the original paint combination and shows a Van Nuys CA assembly plant designation. The F suffix on the block decodes to "1958-1961 348ci 4bbl". Engine bay is complete except for the battery. The previous owner informed me that the motor is stuck from sitting and I have not attempted to turn it. Included with the car is a 348 tri-power manifold. Click here for a slideshow of all of the enlarged images.
