Vehicle Detail
1966 Chevrolet Caprice Sport Coupe (Impala) Please take the time to thoroughly read this ad before bidding. The top Chevy model offered, Caprice first became it's own luxury/sport series instead of an option package to the base model Impala in '66. It was described by Chevrolet as a full size-executive-two door-hardtop sedan with a formal Roofline. This vehicle is in good condition overall & maintains much of it's originality. Though it has had some past restorative work, it is presentable & serviceable inside & out. It is mechanically sound & completely operable. I bought this car in 2011 with 55,000 miles on it as is evidenced on the title. The odometer now reads 56,759 miles. It has spent most of its recent life in the garage relaxing. The very limited wear on the drivers seat, the driver's side door hinges, the accelerator & brake pedals, the carpet, the console & the rest of the car in general, cause me to believe that the mileage on the odometer is genuine & that it has not turned over one hundred thousand miles. The VIN is 166476T151978 which translates to 1=Chevrolet, 66=Caprice 8 cylinder, 47=2 door coupe, 6=1966, T=Tarrytown, NY plant, series 151,978 of the approximate 181,000 total Caprices made in 1966. I have a clear title in hand & I look forward to signing it over to you. As indicated by the cowl tag, the options that this vehicle was originally built with include: M/M=Aztec Bronze exterior paint & the second M probably indicates that it was built with an Aztec Bronze vinyl top (which has apparently been removed). Set 1 891-B=Aztec Bronze all vinyl interior with strato bucket seats, center console with floor shifter & storage compartment. Set 1 W=Tinted Soft Ray Windshield Set 2 M=Power Glide Automatic Transmission, code C0907N translates to C=Cleveland Plant, 09=Sept, 07=7th day of the month, N= night shift. Set 2 R=Rear Seat Speaker Set 5 Y=Convenience/Courtesy Lighting Package Further equipment that this car was originally built with include: *Power brakes*Power steering*Special instrumentation integrated with the lower instrument panel*Front Bumper Guards*Full wheel covers*Wood grain interior trim*Color matched seat belts.*10 bolt locking rear axle, code DI1124B E translates to 3.36 gear ratio, build date 11/24/66, Buffalo, NY plant, differential manufactured by Eaton. (With the rear wheels elevated, both rear wheels rotate in the same direction at the same rate).*327cid/275hp Turbo Fire V-8 (L30) This was later replaced with a 350cid, 300hp crate motor from Summit Racing, code 3970010, date stamped H1679=8/16/79. With cylinder heads, code 3986336X, 350 76cc, date stamped B2_1 2/2/71. With Edelbrock Performer dual plane intake manifold & a 4 barrel Holley carburetor, code 6291, 600 cfm, vacuum secondaries, date stamped 3455. With HEI ignition. Original exhaust manifolds remain with replacement mufflers & dual exhaust out to the rear bumper. The engine starts right up, runs well & does not burn oil. The transmission functions properly & does not slip. The axle functions properly. This car has good bones. The chassis is solid with typical surface rust only & no penetrating corrosion issues. The frame shows no signs of impact or crash. The car sits on & moves through the full range of it's suspension properly. The brakes function properly. Upper & lower ball joints, tie rod ends, idler arm, front anti sway bar links & brake lines have all been replaced around '05 by the previous owner. The tires have significant tread remaining. This car seems to have been sheltered from the northeastern winter seasons as the floor pans, front & rear inner fenders are all solid. The doors, the hood & the trunk lid hinge & latch properly. The front clip hangs properly, the sides of the car are straight & the body lines flow as they should. The quarter glass & side windows open & close properly. All of the original badges, trim & bright work remain. The exterior is missing one front bumper guard & both side view mirrors. The trunk pan does need repair or replacement. This damage appears to have been caused by rain water leakage through the Caprice pseudo louvres just under the rear view window. The front fenders need some work in the lower corners just behind the front fenders. The header panel needs rust repair in a small area at its center. The front clip on this car is from a '65 Impala. Aside from the CD player & two speakers, the interior is completely original & in exceptional condition for being nearly 50 years old. Even the carpet is original. The headliner is flawless. There are no rips or tears on the seats. The interior is missing only a few small parts including the lens for the rear floor lighting on the back of the console, the light inside of the console, the glove box interior, the small triangular panel just left of the glove box & the rear seat package tray liner. The electrical circuitry & all switches are fully operable including the ignition, all interior & exterior lights, the wipers, the horn, the clock, the hazards & even the original rear seat speaker. During my association with this car, I have replaced the typical incidentals with dependability in mind. That list of recent parts installed since 2011 includes upper & lower radiator hoses, fan belt, thermostat, fuel filter & air cleaner, battery, front & rear KYB gas shock absorbers, brake drum shoes on all four wheels, side glass exterior rubber seals & interior side glass felts. Having driven this car less than two thousand miles, I've changed the rear & trans fluid once each & changed the oil twice since I've owned it. It runs reliably & is a dependable car. The bulk of the few miles that I did put on it were confidently driven four hundred mile round trips. I've never had a single problem with this car. I honestly hate to see this one go, these things made the coolest NASCARs ever!!! It is just one more great example of a truly nostalgic 60s American muscle car dripping with heart & soul. Hopefully it will go to someone out there who will take it to the next level of restoration & preserve it for generations to come. Selling As Is, No Warranties. No Trades.
