Vehicle Detail

When my wife and I purchased this Four Wheel Drive, 2004 Chevy Suburban 2500HD Diesel back in 2010, the idea of a finding a Duramax powered SUV, with 605 lb·ft of torque, was a dream come true! We had friends who loved the utility of their diesel trucks (Duramax, Powerstroke and Cummins) and made really good arguments why we should get one but ultimately my wife wanted another SUV. Before buying this vehicle, we had a 2001 Chevrolet Suburban that we loved, the problem was the amount of fuel we were sinking into it. So I searched and searched and along came a Diesel! Having owned this diesel Suburban for several years now I'm just dumbfounded why Chevy doesn't offer the Duramax as an option in the Suburban. It's far more practical than a Hummer, great for a large family and just incredible to drive. So with all this said we are regrettably selling our Suburban now and have purchased a work truck. The Suburban experience has completely won us over to the Duramax / Allison platform and I can't imagine owning a gasser (gas powered) truck. In fact after all I've read and experienced with this Suburban I have so much faith in the longevity of the engine/trans combo that we just bought a 200,000 mile Duramax truck right here on Ebay. This 2004 Suburban has primarily been used for long trips originating in North Carolina and for occasionally pulling a very small trailer. Since it's not a truck it's never been subjected to pulling a Fifth Wheel trailer or heavy loads. I've never run a performance programmer, or modified the intake or exhaust in any way. Oil and filter changes have been done regularly, as well as fuel filter service. The only repairs required over the years have been brakes, a new fan clutch, u-joints and an accelerator pedal. The tires have all been replaced with five brand new all-weather radials which ran me well over a thousand dollars. They are quiet on the highway and get good fuel economy. See the photos. The truck was built by a West Coast outfit (CSK) that specializes in Diesel Suburban conversions, they have years of experience converting the Suburban 2500, been featured in 4x4 magazines and know their stuff. They came very highly recommended and have done over 45 conversions to date! They use lightly damaged or theft recovered suburbans from insurance auctions, repair the vehicles and convert them. They are located in Atascadero, California and can be found online pretty easily. Travis and Randy are the owners - really nice folks. Here is a thread where they are mentioned: http://www.duramaxforum.com/forum/suburban-suv/158458-2003-2006-3-4ton-lbz-burb-swap.html Also a quote about how they stand behind their conversions and compares them up there with Duraburb Inc (probably one of the largest and most recognized builders of these): http://www.dieselplace.com/forum/63-gm-diesel-engines/374-frankenstein/442243-duramax-qudrasteer-yukon-hell-2.html As you can see from the photos, the truck looks like it came from the factory - as it should. I did months of research before buying it and would never consider buying a one-off conversion done by a home mechanic. Be careful, there are plenty out there! I did consider Duraburb Inc. (they will convert your existing Suburban 2500) but I couldn't afford the $20K price-tag to do the conversion - this is on top of the price of supplying them with your vehicle. No slight towards them, I just didn't have that kind of cash to drop at the time. Here is another posts that talks about the costs involved in a conversion project like this and just how awesome it is: http://www.automedia.com/Suburban_Diesel/dsm20071201sd/1 2004 Chevrolet Suburban Duramax Details This Suburban has a very subtle body lift of 2". This is needed to accommodate the Allison transmission. The tires are appropriately sized to the lift of the vehicle and look and drive great without any interference. Take note that while the body is a 2004, the engine was donated from a 2004.5 Silverado 2500HD with only 89K miles on it - this engine features the updated and less costly to replace fuel injectors and newer EGR. Do some research and you'll read good things about these motors. The LLY (internally called the 8GF1) (engine code "2") is a 6,599 cc (402.7 cu in) turbocharged engine which debuted in mid-2004 and continued until the end of 2005. It is a 32-valve design with high-pressure common-rail direct injection and aluminum cylinder heads. The LLY was GM's first attempt to implement emissions requirements on their diesel trucks. To meet this goal they turned to a newly developed Garrett turbocharger with a variable geometry vane system and they installed an Exhaust Gas Recirculation valve or (EGR Valve). Learning from problems with injectors in the previous LB7 GM changed the valve covers to allow access to the injectors without having to remove the valve covers, saving significant labor costs if injector replacement became necessary. The following trucks used the LLY engine: 2006 Hummer H1 Alpha Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra HD Specifications Engine type: 6,599 cc (402.7 cu in) V8 turbo Bore x Stroke: 4.06 in (103 mm) x 3.90 in (99 mm) Block / Head: Cast gray iron / Cast aluminum Aspiration: Turbocharged & Intercooled Valvetrain: OHV 4-v Compression: 17.5:1 Injection: Bosch High Pressure Common-rail Power / Torque: 305 bhp (227 kW) @3000 rpm / 605 lb·ft (820 N·m) @1600 rpm Differential gearing on this truck is 4.10 which makes it an absolute joy to ride through the mountains or tow with. I still get a smile on my face when accelerating onto a highway entrance ramp. This truck has heated leather seats in all three rows, power seats up front, adjustable foot pedals, adjustable steering wheel, audio controls on the steering wheel, a sun roof, cruise control, power windows, locks, pedals, dual climate control, dual radio control, On-Star integration, defog mirrors, dimming mirrors, tow package with tow haul mode. Truck comes with tire jack, a full sized matching spare, cargo rails on the roof (the three bicycle mounts on the roof have been removed and are not included). It is fully loaded with the exception of the entertainment system. So what's wrong with it? As I stated earlier the truck was built by CSK, they buy lightly damaged trucks and rebuild them. I have seen their assembly line in person and they do a full body off restoration and repair anything that needs fixing. As with many of their conversions, this vehicle was involved in a small accident and had a salvage title (theft recovery) before the gas engine was removed and the conversion completed. The vehicle was professionally repaired and the driver side door and a quarter panel were painted by a body shop - you would never notice as you can see from the photos. I'm sure Carfax has all this reported. Once the vehicle was repaired and converted the title was reissued as a salvage REBUILT and it was inspected onsite by a NC Department of Motor Vehicles License and Theft Inspector and certified safe for on-road use. It was also inspected and successfully passed at a NC auto inspection station and has been on the road for many years now without any problems. If this makes you uncomfortable you can call CSK and ask them about the process and they will assure you they do it correctly. Apparently using damaged vehicles allows them to take advantage of some of the custom built vehicle laws. Be aware that there are some small chips in the paint on the hood from just regular driving. I have taken pictures in attempt to disclose these. My only personal complaint with this truck is that it registers low coolant even when the overflow tank is full to the line. The local Chevy dealer looked at it and told me the voltage differences between the gas and diesel truck differs from the coolant reserve tank and it doesn't get a correct reading. So it doesn't drink coolant so it's not a problem but I want potential bidders to be aware of this minor nit pick. When refueling, some of the newer, faster diesel pumps at the gas station, will cause the fuel to foam up and you will have to fill it manually - throttle it slightly. The climate control module will sometimes not switch to AC right away and you will have to turn the truck on and off for it to work - common issue with Chevy SUVs of this era. This vehicle is sold as is, where is, with no warranty expressed or implied. You are welcome to come see the truck in person or send someone out to have it inspected before you bid. Good luck bidding on this fine example of a CSK Duramax Diesel Suburban conversion. Here are some more photos: On May-23-14 at 08:00:10 PDT, seller added the following information: Here is a link to the original insurance auction of this Suburban before CSK converted it. You can see the damage to the vehicle was minimal. http://www.autobidmaster.com/carfinder-online-auto-auctions/lot/10695090/COPART_2004_CHEVROLET_K2500_SUBU_SALVAGE_VEHICLE_TITLE_FT._WORTH_TX/ Just to clarify.... the body had 150K on it at the time. The Silverado truck that the Duramax engine and Allison transmission came out of had only 89K on it. Now the engine and transmission have 134K on them. So the body has an additional 40K on it.On May-23-14 at 15:45:13 PDT, seller added the following information: If you want more information about CSK - the original builders of this conversion - you can contact Travis of CSK at: 805-801-6575 - They are actively building diesel conversions so please be respectful of their time.
