Vehicle Detail

1958 Volvo 445 Duett 94K original miles 2 owners from new Excellent example Here up for bids is this rare Volvo Duett, a 1958 445.  This car has had only 2 owners from new, it spent its first 36 years in New Mexico before moving to WA State in 1994.  The 2nd owner was a dedicated Volvo enthusiast and continued excellent care of the car.  Always garaged, this 445 is extremely solid and features all original sheet metal and floor pans.  Equipped with its original B16 motor, the car has traveled just over 94K miles from new and remains in outstanding condition.  Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page. The car wears a very nice repaint that shows well.  On close inspection you'll find a few chips along with some minor overspray on the window seals.  Overall though this Volvo makes a pretty strong impression.  The body is arrow straight with excellent sightlines.  Panel gaps are good and all doors shut well.  Most PV's have sagging door handles, these stay upright and the latch guides on the doors are all in great shape with no metal fatigue. All lights and lenses are in great shape, front and rear bumpers are original and show some light patina but no dents.  The only spot I've found with any bubbling are 2 tiny areas around the perimeter of the driver's side rear wheel arch, see the 1st photo below.  Otherwise, the entire body and undercarriage is free of any rust issues.  Wheels and hubcaps are in good shape, tires have plenty of tread. All of the glass is in good shape, they are all original Templex pieces except for the windshield.  The windshield somes some light wiper rash and one bullseye chip down low on the passenger side, see the 4th photo below.  The 3rd photo shows a small dent on the roof, this is the the car's biggest flaw. The grill insert, surround and emblem are all in excellent condition.  The hood tips forward for easy access to the engine bay. The entire interior was disassembled and painted, the floors were treated with POR-15 and sound deadening underlayment was installed.  The car has new carpet and door panels along with new seat upholstery.  Like all Volvos from this era the seats are super comfortable. The banjo steering wheel is in great shape with no splits or cracks.  All instrumentation and controls operate correctly, including the Motorola "Volumatic" radio.  All of the gauges work and show good readings, lights and signals operate correctly, and the heater is very effective.  The only non-operating item is the horn. The headliner has a few small pencil sized holes, otherwise it's in good shape front to back.  The wood slats are original to the car as well as the wood on the side panels and rear doors, they're still in terrific condition after 55 years. The B16 motor is in excellent condition and runs out great.  It has about 8000 miles since a rebuild and is a real peach.  It provides a good amount of power to move this Duett down the road and does so with no issues or drama.  The car is totally freeway capable and cruises at 70 pretty comfortably.  The suspension is in good condition, the steering is super responsive, and the transmission shifts perfectly.  The car runs cool, doesn't smoke, brakes well and overall is just an easy old car to get along with. The undercarriage is all original and shows no signs of accident damage or rust history.  The floor pans have been painted top and bottom with POR-15 and should be good for another 55 years.
