Vehicle Detail

1936 Chevrolet 5 Window Coupe Oregon car from new All original steel and wood Never hit, never rusted Here up for bids is this really super 1936 Chevy Standard Coupe.  This car was sold new at Stoddard-Frink Chevrolet in Albany Oregon and has stayed local ever since.  The car has excellent original sheet metal and wood framing.  The mileage of 64,133 is believed to be original but due to its age the car is sold mileage-exempt.  This is the type of car that you can tell has led a charmed life, never hit or hurt, and in the care of the same owner for the last 31 years. If you follow the market on Pre-War Chevrolets, you know that finding original examples that haven't been rodded is not easy, especially for the coupes.  This car on offer here is bone stock and has remained unmodified for 77 years.  Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page. The car wears older paint that still shines beautifully.  The prep and application were excellent, you'll find no overspray, orange peel or runs - this was a high quality job.  There are a few age related flaws here and there but overall this paint stands tall.  Partly responsible is the incredible sheet metal beneath.  This is one of the straightest pre-war cars I've ever seen, just outstanding from front to back.  You'll notice the sight lines in the photos - no rippling, no waves, just arrow straight with excellent reflections. There are no rust issues anywhere on the car, no bubbling or blistering, the floor pans are likewise excellent with no problems.  Tires are Firestone Deluxe Champions with good tread and no sidewall checking.  All 5 wheels and hubcaps are in terrific condition. Great panel fit throughout.  The wood framed doors both close with a perfect 'click'.  Both bumpers are in good shape with no damage and no pitting.  All 5 of the artillery wheels are in great shape.  Good gaps around the trunk lid and no rust in the gutters. The grill is straight and true, the center strip shows some light wear but overall it's pretty clean for being an unrestored original.  The foglights have been wired to work as turn signals, the car also had some trailer style lights mounted to the rear bumper brackets, I removed them for cosmetic reasons but they are included and can easily be wired right back in for turn signals at the rear.  Both of the Chevrolet branded 'Tilt Ray' headlamps are in great shape with no chips or cracks, the chrome surrounds are excellent as well.  A 1935 Master Deluxe "Flying Goose" hood ornament has been added. All of the car's fender welting looks super.  Both running boards are in fantastic condition. As you can see the car has a very desirable Peckat Comet Skyshield.  All of the glass in the car is crystal clear with no delamination or scratches.  The window seals show some age but are still weather-tight. Lots of nice little details throughout, pre-war cars have a charm all their own. Very nice trunk area with original jacking equipment, hand crank, and even a hand operated air pump! Great looking interior with original Chevrolet logo flooring. Steering wheel has no cracks or splits.  Sills, jambs and running boards are all super.  Garnish moldings, weatherstrip and windlacing are all really nice as well. All gauges work correctly.  The radio is not wired in, although the original tube amplifier and speaker are included, they need restoration.  The throttle knob, lights, choke control and heater fan all operate correctly. Headliner is excellent.  Key fob is from Stoddard-Frink Chevrolet. If you like the way this car looks, you'll love the way it drives.  This old Chevy starts instantly, the Stovebolt Six runs like a little sewing machine.  No smoke, no hesitation, the car runs down the road great.  It moves through the gears smoothly, brakes adequately, runs cool and tracks straight.  The car has true dual exhaust from the engine back.  The split manifold gives this coupe a great sound. The car's survivor status continues to the undercarriage.  These are bare steel floorpans you're looking at. I've inspected them very closely and have found no rust issues anywhere, not even pinholes.  No signs of accident history either, just a very well preserved 77 year old original.
