Vehicle Detail

1949 Cadillac Series 62 Sedanette Desirable body style Extensive restoration Fabulous Post-War styling Here up for bids is this beautiful 1949 Cadillac Series 62 Club Coupe.  For some of you, this is a car that needs no introduction.  Cadillac debuted its 1949 models to rave reviews thanks in part to its newly designed engine, the OHV 331.  Tom McCahill reported in Mechanix Illustrated that "With this engine, Cadillac, despite its large size, out-performs just about every car being made."  That same year, Motor Trend magazine bestowed its first ever "Car of the Year" award to the '49 Cadillac.  Currently, The Milestone Car Society has recognized this vehicle as a Certified Milestone Car.  All accolades aside, the '49 Cad Sedanette is just one of those cars where everything came together perfectly, and probably one of our best post-war automotive designs.  This car was the subject of a comprehensive restoration and features a rebuilt motor and transmission, all new interior, extensive chrome work, and a wheel-tire combo from Coker that really finishes it off.  Click to enlarge any of the photos below, a link to a slideshow of all the enlarged images is available to view at the bottom of the page. As you can see, the car presents very well.  There are however a couple of flaws that keep it from being show quality.  On close inspection you'll find some faint primer overspray on the doors and fender skirts.  These were painted off of the car and for some reason a mist of primer fell onto them without being noticed.  It's most visible under hard direct sunlight, not super noticeable otherwise but is something that needs to be mentioned here.  Otherwise, yes, this is one fine looking sedanette.   Both front and rear bumpers have been rechromed and are show quality.  The grill is unrestored, there is some light tarnishing on the passenger side.  All of the stainless trim on the car is in good condition.  All lights and signals work correctly.  Tires are BF Goodrich Silvertown radials from Coker, along with the 48 spoke wire wheels and center caps, all 4 sets are in as-new condition. The windshield, wing windows, and rear window are original.  The side windows are new.  The windshield shows some light wiper rash on the passenger side, but is surprisingly free of any cracks or stars after 64 years.  The car has all new rubber window seals, including the wing windows.  The side windows have new felt sweeps and relined window guides.  All  weatherstripping on the car is new (door, hood, trunk, etc) - every piece. The gas filler hinge assembly works smoothly and clicks down securely.  Nice looking emblems front and rear.  The trunk has been refinished in the correct materials. There's a reason these cars are so well loved - there's no shortage of beautiful details to admire. The interior has been completely redone, from the carpet to the headliner.  The seats look and feel like leather but are actually a hard wearing vinyl.  My friend who is an upholsterer pointed this out, they looked like leather to me.  The car has an all new wiring harness from front to rear, cloth-bound like the original. The steering wheel has been beautifully restored.  Even more fantastic is the woodgraining on the dash and side panel tops, just masterfully done.  All gauges are functioning and show good readings.  Just about every control works correctly except for the radio and clock.  Wipers, horn, lights, signals, heater - all work correctly. Back seat is in excellent conditon as well as the door panels.  The doors have good fit and close precisely, all windows wind smoothly. All of the hardware is in great condtion, even the ashtrays have been restored. The headliner is perfect from front to back.  All windlacing is new as well. The motor has been completely rebuilt and has logged few miles since, it runs perfectly. All externals components were rebuilt as well - generator, carburetor, fuel pump, distributor, etc. Stainless hardware was used for all external fasteners.  The raised sections of the valve covers were hand pinstriped. The undercarriage has a few problems areas, they're visible in the 2nd photo below.  You'll see that the 2 front body outriggers show some rust damage, and there's been a patch in the floorboard on the driver's side.  The remainder of the undercarriage is solid, straight and original. The car has all new brakes and a new exhaust from the manifold back. Click here for a slideshow of all of the enlarged images.
