Vehicle Detail
Well, if you love Internationals, love history, and love uniqueness, here you are. This is for you! ~ Background History~ In service with Nevada Armored Transport Inc. when The Beatles played Las Vegas, Elvis and Ann-Margret filmed “Viva Las Vegas”, the Mob ruled the town, and the Rat Pack was in full swing!!! This vehicle was then purchased from the retiring fleet of Nevada Armored Transport by the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department in 1978 and assigned as a S.W.A.T. vehicle until it’s auction in 1992. Solid thirty four year documentation of Las Vegas provenance back to 1978 when Clark County, NV purchased the truck. ~History of Ownership~ Nevada Armored Transport Inc. 1963/64~1978 (Undocumented, however, the company was the sole armored car service from 1946 until 1977 when purchased by Purolator Armored Inc.) Clark County, NV / LVMPD / SWAT ~ 1978~1992 Diamond Motors/Any Auto Brokers ~ 1991~1992 Felix Lenox ~ 1992~1996 Sam Salde/Palladium Nightclub ~ 1996 Mike Ginsburg/Southwest Radio/Jacor Communications/ Clear Radio ~ 1996~2005 Felix Lenox ~ 2005~Current owner. ~ About the truck ~ A custom armored cab built by Tom Moore and Sons on a 1963 International Loadstar 1600 frame. Gasoline powered International 304 V-8 engine with a five speed transmission. 1st is granny, 5th is overdrive. Features include spring loaded gun ports, twin internal exhaust fans, Fridgiking front and rear air conditioning, ventilation fans, as well as four opening roof vents. Military style rifle rack mounted beside the front passenger seat (shotgun!). Heavy duty trailer hitch plus a ball hitch. Tire size is 17.50 x 17 on split rims. Tubes. Clear title. ~ Condition ~ The body is in very good condition with nearly no rust due to the climate here in Las Vegas. One minor ding on the driver side front fender that could be easily fixed. There are two small holes in the front grill plate where S.W.A.T. attached added support for the front guard when it was on. The vehicle has been shot at and there are pock marks in several of the windows with the passenger window being spider splintered (see photo). It only adds character to the truck in it’s current condition. The current paint job is about sixteen years old and is flaking all the clear coat off and oxidizing whatever is uncovered. All spring loaded gun ports are functional. The original front grill guard had been removed for some reason and I had to fabricate to re-attach a new bumper. It was replaced with a period piece. There is a slight bend in the bumper that corresponds with the ding in the front fender that just adds to the character once again in it’s current condition. ~Mechanical condition~ Well, let’s be honest. It is a fifty year old vehicle. I can say when I re-acquired in 2005 (yes, I’ve owned it twice and it was in much better condition the first time around in 1992!). I’ve had it running and polished and attended car shows where it always gets a lot of looks. The past year or so I haven’t had the time, the money, or the energy to dedicate the proper attention to it that it deserves as a classic vehicle. I’ve had my fun with it over the years I’ve owned it and it is time to let it go. It is in need of a lot of attention to detail. It does start and run and is drivable, however, it needs a full professional tune-up, possibly rings (smokes until warmed up), carberator adjustment, new battery, new positive starter cable, clutch master cylinder rebuilt or replaced. The tires are about five years old but with low, low, miles and practically look new. They still have the little rubber nodules on them! The last time I drove it the front right brake was catching and probably needs the shoe adjusted. Otherwise the brakes work well. The odometer reads 066675 which is the actual mileage of the vehicle. Las Vegas was a much smaller place back in those days! The air conditioner blows well but I would assume needs Freon. The heater works well. The vacuum style windshield wiper arms are missing. Most of the running lights work, one or two may need a bulb replacement. All head lights, brake lights, and turn signals are functional. This truck is truly a part of Las Vegas history!!! As I’ve said, I have painstakingly tracked the history of this vehicle as far back as thirty-four years to it’s acquisition by Clark County for it’s use with the police dept. (See photo) as well as the history of the company. There are yet to be undiscovered photos out there somewhere of it’s service with S.W.A.T. and Nevada Armored Transport. I’m still looking! To learn more about the history of the company please visit my Facebook page, Nevada Armored Transport Inc. 1946-1984. To my knowledge there are only two of these trucks left over from this time period and none earlier. (Believe me, I’ve been looking and doing the research for the last seven years!) This is the ONLY one with documentation. Selling the vehicle AS IS, WHERE IS, NO REFUNDS. Please ask any and all questions through Ebay for all to see and I will answer as quickly and honestly as I can. I have placed a reserve price that in my opinion is fair, if not low, given the age and proven historical background of this vehicle as opposed to recent sales of used armored trucks on auction sites, including Ebay. All necessary arrangements for shipping or pick up are the responsibility of the buyer. Title and vehicle will not be released until all funds are paid and verified. I can hold the vehicle for thirty days if necessary for the buyer to make arrangements.
