1969 Volvo P1800 S CoupeAs you walk up to this delightful automobile, you notice the great design, still looking modern and futuristic after over 50 years. You open the door and note it's solid feel. In recent article I read a P1800 recently broke the 3 million mile mark, a testament of the quality that went into these lovely gems. You slide behind the wheel and take in the great looking dash and quaint gauges, nothing else looks quite like this. You hit the starter and the rebuilt engine fires instantly. As you snick the gear lever into first gear, you realize that they really don't build 'em like they used to. Pedestrians smile, and other drivers give you a thumbs up as you roll down the road, it's going to be a great day in your most excellent Volvo P1800 S! The Volvo P1800 S is an iconic design, featured many times in television shows and films over the years. Production started in 1961 and they were built until 1973. In 1969 the P1800 received the B20 which was a 200cc increase in displacement to 2 liters, which bumped the horsepower to 118. Also in 1969 the P1800 S also received various cosmetic upgrades and an improved transmission as well. This 1969 P1800 S is an excellent example of these stunning little cars, well cared for and tastefully updated over the years. There is an extremely detailed paper trail, totaling over 100 pages, starting in 1995, detailing a rebuilt motor, transmission, paint and much, much more. It is so rare to find this much documentation on a car this old anymore. This the best way to know that this Volvo was truly cared for. There is no rust, the car runs like a top, and looks spectacular! This car doesn't get driven in the rain, always stays in the garage, is only taken out for special occasions and to be shown at various local car shows. Included are catalogs from the Columbia River Concours and Oregon Coast car show where this car was highlighted. One of my favorite designs, you will be hard pressed to find a nicer one. This one has been pampered for the last 20 years and probably before that too. Mechanically this car is beyond excellent, cosmetically the car is very, very good. The orginal paint is color code 94, for Dark Green. The current paint (Dupont Hunter Green B9264) is very similar, but metal flake was added for extra luster and shine. Personally I think it looks much better too. It is not show quality if you really want to get nit-picky, but it looks great. It doesn't have and real dents or scratches, I would say it is a 8.5 out of 10 in quality. The interior is beautiful, all the gauges work, and the seats are nice and comfortable. There are a few spares that come with the car, including the original steel wheels and chrome hubcaps. In the reciepts that come with the car, I found that the engine was completely rebuilt in 2001. You can tell it has only had few miles on it since it was done. It runs very smooth, pulls hard and doesnt smoke. Making the driving video was a joy in the P1800 S. The odometer says 25461, but we would assume that it is the second time around. Important modern upgrades are the; Modern rotary style AC compressor, Hidden CD player (please see pictures for details), upgraded Weber Redline carb set up. Also it now rides on New goodyear tires and Mini Lite style wheels. This wheel and tire combo makes for a better ride and handling, plus looks amazing. It is currently registared in Oregon and has current tags. But for the photos we put on the original California Black plates that the car ran till it moved to Oregon. Collectors love these!
