Vehicle Detail

Up for auction from my personal collection is my 1972 Suzuki GT550. This GT550 is in overall very nice original condition and has been used very sparingly over the years as it only has 7,530 original and correct miles on it. The frame number is GT550-19555 and the engine number is GT550-20818 making this a numbers matching correct original example. The build date on the steering neck reads 6/72. I acquired this GT550 some time ago and decided to purchase it because of its overall very nice condition and the fact that it was overall very original and correct. With so many vintage motorcycles in my collection, I have decided to let some of my nicer examples go as I am never going to have time to enjoy them all. I am convinced the new owner of this overall very nice GT550 will appreciate its originality and overall quality. I would like to stress that fact that this nice GT550 should not be confused with the other examples of GT’s sporadically offered by amateur and unreliable sellers. It is overall clean, correct and a nice example that has nothing to do with other examples I have seen listed for sale that are dirty and in my opinion embarassing. Cosmetically, this GT550 shows very well. The original paint is very nice on the sides of the fuel tank but the top does have some of the original clear coat peeling. The side covers are overall nice and one cover does have some staining that may buff off. The inside of the fuel tank is also very clean with bright metal still visible. The side covers also have all the mounting tabs intact and the covers do not have any visible cracks or other damage. The headlight bucket and fork ears are in near mint original condition and appear very close to new condition with no visible damage or fading of any kind. The body work is in overall presentable condition and in my opinion is in nice enough original condition that I would recommend enjoying it as is. The new owner could also easily restore this excellent body work as well if they desire to do so. The correct and original seat is in outstanding original condition and features a soft and flexible original cover. The front and rear fenders and in excellent condition and the tail light bracket and tail light are also in excellent condition and feature outstanding factory original chrome. Correct front and rear turn signals are also mounted as well. The rear grab bar is also present and features nice chrome. The original chain guard is intact and appears to be in excellent overall original condition. The original and very difficult to find Suzuki “S” mirrors are mounted to a set of original handlebars which feature the original handlebar controls. The exhaust pipes on this GT550 are in near mint original condition and are the absolute nicest set of original GT pipes I have yet to come across-they appear to be in near new condition. After careful inspection, the original factory chrome appears very close to new condition. The exhaust have no visible dents, scrapes or scratches and would be acceptable on a show quality restoration or mint original example. The under sides of the exhaust match the condition and quality of the sides and tops as well. Of course they are absolutely rust free and solid. The exhaust on this GT550 would be nearly impossible to replace and are truly in spectacular condition. Mechanically, this GT550 easily starts and quickly idles down. When warm, a quick tap of the start button quickly brings this GT550 to life and the engine runs strong and smooth as it is barely broken in with only 7,530 miles. I have not had this GT550 out on the road and it has been parked for some time so I would recommend some general maintenance such as carburetor tuning and setting the clutch as well and any other general maintenance as recommended by Suzuki. The engine itself as well as the engine area and carburetors are very clean, correct and appear to be very well maintained. The correct original double leading front brake is also in proper working order as well. Overall, this is a very nice, clean, original and correct example of a 1972 GT550. It is not perfect but is very, very nice. As you know, nicer original examples are becoming very difficult to find. I also of course have a key as well as clear title for this GT550.
