Vehicle Detail

Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE You’re looking at a 1948 Chrysler Royal Superior Coach Corporation Service car / hearse. Superior Coach Corp. built only a handful of these and as stated in the article below, none are known to exist, so this may very well be the only one. The original 6 cylinder L-head motor runs great. The three speed fluid drive transmission is also in great shape. The car yard drives with the emergency brake stopping the car. The brakes need work (master cylinder, wheel cylinders, etc.). All the glass will need to be replaced. The driver’s side door glass rolls up and down but is cracked. The passenger side window mechanisms are not installed but do come with the car. The original rims have been sandblasted, primered and painted on the front side. The white walls are made by Remington and have plenty of tread but have weather cracks. The outside door handles were removed except for the passenger side rear door. All the inside door handles and mechanisms are intact and working . There is a small amount of rust on the driver’s side floor (shown). The rest of the floor is nice. The wheel base measures 121 ½ inches and does fit on a 16 foot car trailer for transportation. All the parts shown in the pictures are included with the car. Below is some historic information for this car: According to Books by Thomas McPherson, “The Company’s name was changed to The Superior Coach Corporation in 1940. And the years that followed saw hearses styled on Cadillac, LaSalle and Pontiac chassis. By 1949, the company had added Chrysler, DeSoto and Dodge chassis to its funeral coach line, offering customers a smaller investment and lower overhead. By 1949 Superior had abandoned their Pontiac chassis and decided to switch to the easily adaptable Chrysler Corporation 9-passenger limousine chassis. Badged as Chrysler, Desoto or Dodge coaches they were available with 6 or 8 cylinder engines and featured a distinctive arched steel body frame that featured forward-sloping C-pillars and rear quarter-windows that closely resembled A.J. Miller's "Torpedo" all-steel body introduced in 1941. Because of Chrysler's shorter wheelbase, the rear side doors were too narrow to allow for side-loading although the radically sloped C-pillars gave these short-lived coaches a more modern-look than their Cadillac siblings. Unfortunately Chrysler discontinued the limousine chassis early in the 1949 model year so production of the Chrysler, Desoto and Dodge chassed coaches came to an abrupt end so very few were produced and none are known to exist today.“ http://classiccardatabase.com/specs.php?series=4666&year=1948&model=25171 http://www.classicflatglass.com/Auto_N_Truck_Manufacturers/Chrysler/1948_Chrysler/1948_Chrysler_4832.htm Serial Number 70036484 Found in range 70029674 to 70038791 Serial 6811 of 9118 Year 1948 Make Chrysler Model Name Royal Model Code C38S Engine 6 cylinder 250.6 cu. You could be the only one at the funeral car and ambulance meet with one of these. Or customize it and run it through Barrett Jackson as a resto mod limo, street rod, or hot rod sedan delivery. Or maybe put it on a 4x4 chassis and make it look like the Grave Digger! You are welcome and encouraged to come and inspect this car before you bid. If you need more information (a walk around description) or more specific pictures, you can email me or call me, Mike, at (760) 519-3478. If you are an overseas buyer, I have a truck and trailer and can transport the car to a shipper in Long Beach for $300. I can also assist in shipping worldwide at the buyer’s expense. If you are in the US and need a transporter, a reliable one I have done business with is Tom Reid at Hanover Transport. You can call or email him for a quote. 1-888-919-1677 or email: tom@hanovertransport.com This vehicle is being sold as is with no implied warranty.
