The larger engine coupled to a five-speed gearbox allows the bike to cruise at highway speeds without rattling your teeth like the earlier 650 four-speeds did. The ’77 Bonneville shifts on the left. The bike handles like a racer, and has that unmistakable Triumph exhaust note. And with front and rear disc brakes, you can “stop” as fast as you “go”. This Triumph has been a great every-day-rider, and is begging to be enjoyed by someone who respects a classic motorcycle. It starts and idles like a new bike. The clutch action is perfect, and the five-speed transmission shifts smoother than any I have ever ridden, and I’ve ridden many. The bike handles wonderfully, and with its taller gearing, it cruises comfortably at freeway speeds. Our shop performed a top end overhaul of the engine in 2009. New pistons, rings, stainless steel valves, Kibblewhite guides, and heavy duty springs. As in all our overhauls, we improved the crankcase breather system. We overhauled the gearbox, replacing all major bushings and seals. We replaced the high gear output shaft and its needle bearings. We overhauled the clutch and installed a new clutch basket. We replaced the drive chain and sprockets, increasing the countershaft sprocket size from the standard 19T to a very tall 22T. We overhauled the front master cylinder. We overhauled the rear master cylinder. We cleaned the carbs, installing new air cleaner elements. We repacked the front steering stem bearings. We installed new front wheel bearings. We replaced the fork seals. The fork internals were in excellent condition. The swing arm bushings and shocks are in excellent condition. We installed new rear wheel bearings. Both tires are brand new. We installed new header pipes and OEM mufflers. The clutch and throttle cables work like new. The centerstand and sidestand are functional and sturdy. The gas tank’s paint is beautiful. The stock seat has been replaced with a beautiful and comfortable Corbin. The bike starts with one kick. It shifts like new, and handles great. There are NO mechanical issues. The bike is ready to ride. The bike is a reliable every-day-rider waiting for you to enjoy it, rain or shine. The frame and engine numbers are matching, and the title is clear. This wonderful classic can be yours for much less than you’d imagine. Feel free to ask for more photos.
