Vehicle Detail
Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE *****NO RESERVE – HIGHEST BIDDER WINS***** You’re looking at a real 1970 SS 454 Monte Carlo. One of 3,823 made. Very hard to find a real one! Trim tag reads: 70 – 13857 BL 04575 TR 748 78 B Paint 9 C 047130 170280 Driver side door sticker indicates manufacture date: 09 - 69 I have the original factory GM build sheet (found inside the upper front seat) that is in great legible condition for documentation. The options on the build sheet read as follows: Standard front horn All tinted glass Tinted windshield Wheel well optional molding Vinyl top Air conditioning 256 ratio axle Auto-level control Power brakes Power disc front brakes LS5 V8 454 c.i. 4 BBL 3-speed automatic transmission Power steering G70X15 white stripe Heavy duty battery Glove compartment light Electric clock Push-button radio Windshield antenna Special wheel equipment Monte Carlo SS The 454 motor ('70s - '80s truck motor) in the car is not the original motor. It does run, but it does have a small knock at idle (sounds like a wrist pin, but I’m not sure). It originally came with a turbo 400 transmission, but it now has a turbo 350. The turbo 400 electric kick-down switch is still mounted to the floor pedal. These are only on big block cars. The distributor, carburetor and alternator are not original but I believe the exhaust manifolds are original. I believe the 12-bolt rear end is original. It is dated: K - 12 - 69 and still has the reinforcement bars (12-bolt rear end cars only) in place. It has 15x7 (FW code) rally wheels that were cleaned and painted with BFG tires that are in okay condition. The California body is in great shape, some small dings and dents, but overall, straight and solid with 90% of the original black cherry paint. The hood, doors and trunk lid are rust-free. The fenders, hood, doors, quarter panels and trunk lid are all original to the car. They've never been wrecked or replaced. The passenger side rear quarter has a small amount of rust, the size of a quarter. The front fenders will need patch panels on the bottoms under the moldings. The rain gutters have no rust at all. The grill is in nice condition. The bumpers are straight and shiny, but once you paint the car they should be re-chromed. The glass is all good. The windows go up and down nice. No rust in the front windshield area, a little in the rear window area (shown). The trunk and floor pans are nice, no rust. The frame is rust-free, not scaly; however, at one time someone bottomed out the center cross-member area and created a flat spot in the frame. The frame is good and usable the way it is, but it has a noticeable flat spot across the whole center bottom. I guess you could replace that spot with a piece off another frame or some flat steel. If you’d like more pictures of this area, let me know. For a factory vinyl top car, the roof is nice, no scale or pits, not rusty. It is missing the long passenger side vinyl top trim piece. This is an early '70 Monte Carlo and the vinyl top trim is different for early cars. It's rounded on the front corners. For shipping purposes, the car rolls easy, the brakes function and the emergency brake works. It still has the rare (and often thrown away) auto-level air compressor (SS 454 only) on the inner fender well. It also has the other part of the auto-leveling system in the rear spring area on the passenger side (not sure what they call that part). The leveling system is not working due to there not being any lines. The interior is original. You will need a carpet kit, a headliner, cardboard package tray, kick panels, and redo the front and rear seats. The door panels are original and in great condition. The dash pad is a new reproduction (no cracks). It has an aftermarket radio that doesn’t work. The air conditioning parts are off, but are included with the car, including inner and outer suitcase, heater controls with cables and some vents. The steering column was switched out years ago and needs to be painted black. It is a correct 1970 Monte Carlo column. The odometer reads 16,051 but the actual mileage is unknown. To sum it up, it is a solid California car that was last registered in 2001. It has a clean California title and would be a great restoration project. If you need more pictures or information, don’t hesitate to ask. If you’d like a walk-around description over the phone, give me a call. Mike (760) 519-3478. If you’d like to come look at the car in person, that would be fine. This item is being sold as is with no implied warranty. Payment to be paid in full within 7 days. Pickup within 21 days unless other arrangements are agreed upon. I have a car trailer and can help with delivery. For overseas buyers, I can deliver the car to a shipping company in Long Beach or that area for $275 and for local buyers, I can deliver the car within a reasonable distance for an agreed upon price. If you’re in the Midwest or on the East Coast, I can trailer the car to meet a transport truck if necessary. On May-10-11 at 10:41:09 PDT, seller added the following information: The car does have the correct drive shaft with the huge balancer on it. I also have the original bumper jack setup that is included with the car. The jack hook is stamped 1970 Monte Caro.
