WHEEL-TO-WHEEL FRAME-OFF RESTORATION WITH THAT EXTRA SOMETHING SPECIAL. TRULY ONE-OF-A-KIND . . . . . The 1978 Bonneville is the first of the "very best" Triumph twins . . . . . . . . . . 750CC, 5 SPEED, FRONT AND REAR DISC BRAKES . . . . .Also, this model was the first to benefit from the new MkII carburetors, with a single choke lever. This eliminated the plunger-type ticklers found on the old Amal carbs, that always got your finger wet with gas.Plus, these new carburetors allow the bike to start easier, and the engine produces more mid-range power, developing better throttle-response at low RPM. My bike is really cool, and has a real retro-look to it.The original instrument cluster/console has been replaced withthe speedometer and tachometer mounted in aretro-looking polished aluminum mount. The look is really clean, and I really like it. The gaudy ‘78-style sidecovers/air cleaner system has been replaced by 60’s air cleaner elements and the clean look of 60’s side covers, which suits the retro-look of the front-end. The new exhaust is genuine 1965 header pipes and mufflers, retro-fit on the 70’s bike to fool the admirer into thinking the bike is 60’s vintage. ENGINE50 miles on engine overhaul.New pistons and rings.Black Diamond valves.Precision Engineering guides.Hi-performance valve springs. Brand new OEM Amal Concentric Mk2 Carburetors. Custom Fabricated Air CleanersSolid-state regulator/rectifier ensures dependable charging.Boyer Electronic Ignition.New clutch plates aided by Barnett heavy-duty clutch springs. POWER20T front sprocket and 47T rear sprocket ispowered by a new high-performance drive chain. CHASSIS The front fork internals have been overhauled, and the fork tubes were replaced. The steering stem bearings have been replaced. We replaced the swing arm bushings. All wheel bearings are new. Both brakes have been serviced. Brakes lines have been updated to stainless steel hydraulic lines. DETAILSGas tank professionally painted in ’05, although there is a smallding in the paint on the left side, as can be seen in the photos.Pin-striping done by hand, the old-fashioned way. The finished product is clear-coated with several coatsof clear urethane, which is tough and fuel resistant. The frame is painted with Pittsburgh Paint's DDC acrylic urethane epoxy paint, which isthe hardest paint on the market.Tires are new Dunlop Gold Seal K70, as was OEM.Inner tubes are new. Side stand and centerstand are top-notch. THE BIKE After breaking in the engine, the valves have been re-adjusted, and the head bolts have been re-torqued. This bike is in excellent shape, and has proven to be very reliable. There are only 20 miles on the overhaul, and only 15,050 miles on the original chassis. With the Boyer ignition, the bike starts very easily. The 1965 exhaust was obviously not designed to fit the oil-in-frame style frame, and the kickstart lever doesn't 'quite' clear the right muffler. You will notice two small scratches in the close-up photo. Beautiful, fast, great handling, and rare. Who could ask for a more unique classic bike? This bike is tuned up and ready to go anywhere. In answer to a common question: The 'E' in T140E does not stand for Electric Start. I stands for Emissions, as 1978 EPA rules demanded the crankcase breather be routed to the airbox. The T140E was the first Bonneville to use the updated Amal Concentric MkII carburetors.
