The K1 is a very rare collector bike because only 6,921 were made and only 500 were imported into the US. In 1989, BMW released this motorcycle that shocked the motorcycle world. The K1 led to the present day BMW line up that includes many performance oriented machines such as the K1200S, K1300S and K1200R. In order to obtain the maximum amount of performance from the K1 BMW engineers decided to wrap the motorcycle in an all encompassing aerodynamic fairing. This decision also made a statement that in the future BMW would make bikes that were not only reliable but were exciting both to look at and to ride. The fairing of the K1 makes long distance rides very comfortable. It does an excellent job of diverting the wind. The bike has great fuel economy and a long range. All in all the K1 is a great high speed touring motorcycle. It was created to run on the German autobahn at speeds of over 140mph. So if you want to ride this cutting edge bike you can cut through the wind like a phantom. Or if you are like many of these K1 owners you can put it on display in your museum. This bike has less than 7000 miles, was garage kept so there is no rust on the bike any where. The paint is the "tuxedo" color which is charcoal black with subtle white pinstripes, which makes this model even more rare, it has scratches typical of a bike this age from being moved around in the garage.
