The previous owner put it in storage for 21 years paying faithfully every month… and then disappeared. I purchased this from the storage facility and am offering it for sale here. In case you are wondering, 12 months of storage at $100 a month = $1200... and $1200 for 21 years equals $25,200 in storage fees paid. This is located in CARSON, California… just south of Los Angeles and very near Long Beach. It is still at the same storage facility where I bought it; I haven’t moved it. This is being sold as-is, for repair or restoration or parts… it’s been mistreated and neglected and is NOT ready for use as it sits. This has been parked at the storage facility for 21 years. All of my observations and descriptions here are based on me walking around and checking things out with just my limited knowledge. Generally speaking, I spend about 20 minutes with vehicles like this and most of that is taking photos and video… we clean things up just enough for photos, test very little if anything, and move on. Please feel free to ask specific questions about anything that’s unclear or especially important to you. This looks like you might expect something to look that’s been sitting unused at a storage lot for 21 years… it’s dirty, sunbaked and hasn’t been cleaned in a long time. EXTERIOR CONDITION: Walking around the outside I see scrapes and scratches and dings and dents here and there. The paint is faded and chalky. Please look closely at the photos to see the general condition and the many imperfections all around. I see some rust holes as shown in the photos and the video, mostly at the edge of the hood and the corners of the doors... but a check underneath shows there is no sign of rust in the floors or trunk at all. The fiberglass rear panel is cracked and the trunk lid is damaged and rusted. The roof has surface rust, but nothing more than that. Thanks to vandals, only one piece of glass remains, on the passenger side door... the windshield, rear window, and driver's door glass have been broken out. The tires are toast. They were flat when we arrived, but took air for our photos. How long they will hold that air is anyone's guess. License plate shows a last registration sticker of 1989. INTERIOR CONDITION: The interior seems fairly complete, but damaged. Vandals have attacked the dash instrument area and the gauges and instruments are damaged. The AC and radio area were not damaged. The front seats have a different upholstery material than the rear, but look like the original seats... so they've been reupholstered. The dash top and console lid are aged and cracked. The carpet is dry and faded. The headliner is sagging. There is a key which will turn in the ignition, but it won't go to the lock position or come out. Bits of broken glass are everywhere, even though we did our best to clean it out. The odometer is broken. We did find a small stack of repair records in the glove box showing mileage of around 18,000 miles in 1980 and around 79,000 miles in 1986, the most recent repair receipt we found. MECHANICAL CONDITION: Obviously, I'm not crazy enough to try and start this vehicle after 21 years, but I did hook up jumper cables to see what works. The engine does crank over! The radio works, the horn works, the AC blower motor works, and the turn signals and flashers work, so there is still hope! Of course I would have no way of knowing the working condition of any of the systems in this unclaimed storage vehicle. You'll need to go through everything to see what works and what needs repair. Many things need fixing or replacing. Remember, this is being sold AS-IS for parts or repair. Count on nothing working so you can be pleasantly surprised if it does. SUMMARY: There you have it… one beat but promising vehicle that you can name your price on… the best thing I can do is offer this for sale at a cheap opening bid with no reserve and let you decide what you think is a fair price. *************************************************************************************** ABOUT THE TITLE, REGISTRATION AND PAPERWORK: As you know, this was abandoned at the storage facility by it’s tenacious previous owner. The storage facility went through the legal California Lien Sale process and sold the vehicle to me. I am selling the vehicle to you. I will provide the complete lien sale paperwork (from the storage facility to me) AND a Bill of Sale (from me to you) for this vehicle. Lien sale paperwork allows you to take title in your name within California. Legal ability to take clear title is guaranteed by Ritter Lien Sales, the company who processed this particular lien sale. Wherever you plan on registering this vehicle… those are the facts. I do not know where you live or what you plan to do with the vehicle, so I wouldn’t know what impact these facts may have on your plans for the vehicle. I’m providing the paperwork stated only which is all I have. If you are not comfortable buying an AS-IS vehicle from unclaimed storage with lien sale paperwork for a price that you decide, then this auction is not for you. If you have questions about how to register this vehicle in another state, country or planet, consult someone who would know about this such as the DMV, Automobile Club, or a storefront Vehicle Registration Service. FOR OUR NON-USA BUYERS: This vehicle comes with paperwork allowing the buyer to take title in California. It does NOT come with a title for export. If you plan on taking this vehicle out of the USA, you MUST title the vehicle for export yourself... I cannot title it in my name or help you with that process. Your frieght company or broker will be able to give more details on the process. *************************************************************************************** ABOUT INSPECTING THE VEHICLE BEFORE THE AUCTION ENDS: This vehicle is available for your inspection before the auction ends. Vehicle inspection will be available the day before the auction ends for anyone who may be interested. In this case, that inspection time will be on Monday, July 5th, at 12 noon. Drop me a note with your phone number if you’d like the address to meet me there at that time. ABOUT PICKING UP: This is located in Carson, California. I am renting this space right now, but the vehicle cannot stay there... other tenants are waiting for this space. You absolutely must pay and pick up within ten business days of winning the bid, which would be on or before Saturday, July 17th. Please guys... do not mess me up by bidding on something you may not be able to get moved by then! You must agree to remove the vehicle within the allotted time. I can meet you for pickup Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 4pm… no pick ups on Sunday or Monday. VEHICLE INSPECTION: MONDAY JULY 5TH at 12 noon AUCTION ENDS: TUESDAY JULY 6TH at 6pm PAY AND PICK UP BY: SATURDAY JULY 17th end of day *************************************************************************************** ABOUT PAYING: You may pay with cash when you pick it up or via Paypal beforehand. I do not accept checks nor money orders of any type for vehicles. ABOUT THE PRICE: I run a no-foolin-around kind of auction on Ebay with a cheap opening price and no reserve. I don't want to trade for anything. I’m not interested in selling parts of it… I’m selling the whole thing in one piece. There is never a Buy-it-Now price, and I don't end my auctions early. ABOUT BIDDING: Bidders with zero or very low feedback scores MUST EMAIL US when bidding to verify your bid... or your bid will be removed. Please note that while you must have a Paypal account to bid on this item... you do not have to pay with Paypal; it's just a screening process. PLEASE BE SURE to have your finances in order before bidding. Ever since Ebay took away the bidder’s accountability by making it impossible for any seller to leave negative feedback about non-paying bidders, there has been a drastic rise in unpaid auctions. MAKE SURE YOU CAN PAY YOUR BID when you push that bid button. Ask your wife first, check your job stability, keep your children off the computer, call your mother and make sure she's healthy, don't drink and bid... I've heard it all already. We take a lot of time and effort to describe things properly and honestly... and we take your Ebay bid seriously, just as we take our obligation for an honest description seriously. Recently, Moms with heart attacks have been outnumbering dead Grandmas as reasons not to pay for Ebay auctions, but emergency surgeries are increasing, too. QUESTIONS? Please feel free to ask any questions you may have but please first read the Frequently Asked Questions below, since your question may already be answered here... of all the thousands of things we sell every year, vehicles generate the most questions... so we try to answer the most common ones below. ALL the questions I receive and my answers will be posted right here on the bottom of this page for all the world to see, so everyone has the same information... you may want to keep this in mind when you ask your questions, especially if you feel compelled to send your name or phone number or an embarrassing message. For example, if you write “This is Joe Smith. Will you end the auction early for $1.39 cash right now?”, we will publish the entire message and everyone will know Joe Smith is attempting to bypass the Ebay auction and also that Joe Smith is really cheap. ****************************************************************************************** FAQ Frequently asked questions about our vehicle auctions: ***** Q: I’m ridiculously cheap and I’d like to get this for much less than others are willing to pay you. I don’t want to bid against other bidders who may bid more than me and I’m hoping you are an inexperienced idiot. Do you have a Buy-it-Now price on this? Will you end the auction early? A: We do not offer Buy-it-Now prices or end any auctions early. We don’t have a reason or incentive to do so. ***** Q: What if I write and tell you I’d like to inspect this, just to get you to meet me there... and then I'll make an insulting cash offer. Would that be ok? A: Don’t go there. And see the section above about the scheduled inspection time for this vehicle. ***** Q: I don't need everything... I just want one piece. Can you sell me just the one piece I want? A: Now that’s just crazy. Why would we do that? ***** Q: What’s your phone number? Or can you call me so I can talk to you about this vehicle? A: Most of the time, people want to talk to us to see if we will bend the rules just for them. We won’t. However, if you really need to speak to us to verify who we are, clarify something important to you, or feel better about the sale in any way, send us a note and we’ll send you our number. ***** Q: Will you pick me up at the airport/train station/bus depot? A: No, we do not offer transportation services. ***** Q: What if I say I’m going to pay you cash when I pick it up, but then when I meet you for pick up I whip out a cashier’s check or other checklike item? A: In that case you will be leaving with nothing very quickly. I accept Paypal or cash only. **** Q: It’s the last hour of the auction. I have a list of about 143 questions I’d like answered immediately. Can I send these questions to you and expect answers to all my questions in a few milliseconds, since I expect you are hovering over the computer 24 hours a day? A: Not really. My days are very busy just like yours. If you have questions about the vehicle, you should send them to me in plenty of time for me to get my email, check out the question, get myself to the vehicle, find the proper answer, and get back to you. This can take a day or two. Questions asked late in the auction may not get answered for this reason. ***** Q: What’s your bottom line price? How much do you want for this thing? A: The price is not determined by me... it's all up to you. If you like what you see, just go ahead and bid whatever you want to pay. If you are the high bidder at the close of the auction, it's yours. This is a real, honest auction with no baloney. ***** Q: I’d like to take advantage of Ebay’s new feedback policy… you know, the one where the buyer can do whatever they want after winning the bid without any punishment or penalty for his actions, including things like disputing the bid price, asking for free bonus items, claiming I never saw this auction before in my life, playing the “death in the family” card, or disappearing into thin air. I may do all of the above. What are your thoughts? A: Yes, it’s an interesting new approach to business by Ebay… taking the concept of “The customer is always right” to an insane level. Anyway, win the bid & pay your bill, get your vehicle and enjoy… and everyone’s happy. ***** Q: What if I can’t pick it up within the alloted time? A: Then please do not bid. This must be paid and removed within the allotted time. I’m paying rent here, guys. ***** Q: I like this and want to bid, but I am a bit afraid of bidding on a thing I haven’t seen in person. What if it’s a piece of crap? What about the seller… I don’t even know who you really are? How can I be sure you aren’t a scam artist? A: Actually, you have a lot of ways to be sure of things here. As far as the item, there are tons of pictures to show you all the important views and aspects of what you are considering buying. I have a little experience with selling vehicles on Ebay and try to take the best pictures I can based on what I think is important to the buyer. You can also come and take a look at this item, or hire an outside inspection service to come and check it out for you, or maybe you know a friend who lives in the area… and I’d be glad to meet them for your inspection. As far as the seller, you should always click on the number near the seller’s name before purchasing anything on Ebay… this will give you the feedback history for the seller based on previous customer’s experience, and will tell you how long they’ve been selling on Ebay. In my case, you can also click on the little “ME” icon near my name and see a picture of me and some of my helpers, my address, business phone number and other information about who you are dealing with. I am a real person with a real address who you can contact and confirm anything that concerns you. ********************************************************On Jul-01-10 at 14:42:47 PDT, seller added the following information:
Due to popular request. I made a trip out to the car today to open the trunk. I drilled the cylinder out, since there was no key and the cylinder would have to be changed anyway. I did no damage to the lock mechanism or hardware... as you view the photos below, keep in mind the damage to the tail panel and lock surround was already there and is shown in the original photos above.
In the series of photos below, you'll see the contents of the trunk when I first opened it, then after I cleared out all the junk, which I bagged... and it is cheerfully included. Actually, in the bags I put the original jack, stand, handle, lug wrench, and spare tire hold-down and wing nut, so those will be of value to the new owner. The beer cans and rusty old tools are a bonus.
As you can see in the pictures, there is rust scaling and some small holes that were not visible from below the trunk. The holes shown were smaller... I pked at 'em to clear away the weak parts, and the remainder of the trunk seems solid as can be, with scaling on the flat bottom portion as shown.Doesn't look too bad, but not exactly as I thought from looking up from below.
