Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is an awesome 1970 VW Karmann Ghia with original blue and yellow CA plates! This is a CA car, with a clear title and current registration until 2011. The car is smog exempt here in CA. I am the second owner of the car, but will be traveling abroad so unfortunately am going to sell it so it can find a good home instead of just putting it into storage. The car is a daily driver and runs and drives great and starts right up every time! I regularly have it on the freeways at 70mph and it handles very well. The car is all original with what I believe to be the original 1600cc engine. The car has been repainted black, though there are some chips, so a new paint job would make this car look stellar. The interior is completely redone with no rips in the carpet, upholstery or headliner. The tires are good as is all of the glass. I just replaced the hood rubber, so that is brand new. All gauges work, except for the clock. Electrical is all good as far as I can tell. Areas of opportunity for the car include: needs new door rubber installed (I just ordered the new rubber from karmannghia.com and it will be included with the car, I just haven't had time to install it yet). The only rust evident is below the battery as usual, though the previous owner installed a patch plate that the battery now sits on. Needs new trunk carpet insert. Transmission may need to be serviced soon. It sticks sometimes going into second, but as I said, it is a daily driver and the tranny hasn't given me any real problems yet. Needs new radio faceplate and possibly new antenna, though the radio actually does work! The original side mirror mount was shot, so I put a new mount on. The original side mirror is off of the car since it will not stay in one position, but is included, along with a brand new repo side mirror. The chrome trim on the right hand side is complete, though is mostly missing aside from one piece on the left hand side. All other emblems appear to be present and in good shape though! I will be including all of the resto parts I have purchased for the car but have yet to install including new repo battery cables, the aforementioned rubber, new rubber for the trunk and the engine bay. The cool thing is too...the original owner's manual is still in the glovebox! You will love this car and I hope it goes to a great home! The car is an awesome daily driver and gets great gas mileage.
