I am looking for something else. However, my Camaro is wicked nice so please remember that.As to myself, I am a (68) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this only because of the value of this car and so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Many of my transactions have been muscle cars, which I have sold to individuals all over the country as well as Canada, England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Australia and the Netherlands. My reputation for honesty is well known amongst muscle car lovers. Some Brief History on the 1976 Camaro: After two years of watching the Ford Mustang enjoy tremendous success, on September 26, 1966, General Motors finally launched its entry into the pony car segment, the 1967 Chevrolet Camaro. Although available with a mediocre six cylinder for volume sales, the Camaro could be equipped with several V8s and a myriad of performance options. Chevrolet stated that the "Camaro" was named after the French word for "comrade." The Camaro was available from the start in hardtop coupe and convertible body styles. The second-generation Chevrolet Camaro was produced by Chevrolet from 1970 through the 1981 model years. It was introduced in the spring of 1970. Build information for model 123-12487 was released to the assembly plants in February of that same year. It was longer, lower, and wider than the first generation Camaro. A convertible body-type was no longer available. GM engineers have said the second generation is much more of "A Driver's Car" than its predecessor. Dubbed "Super Hugger", the second-generation Camaro was developed without the rush of the first generation and benefited from a greater budget justified by the success of the first generation. Although it was an all-new car, the basic mechanical layout of the new Camaro was familiar, engineered much like its predecessor with a unibody structure utilizing a front subframe, A-arm and coil spring front suspension, and rear leaf springs. The chassis and suspension of the second generation were greatly refined in both performance and comfort; base models offered significant advances in sound-proofing, ride isolation, and road-holding. Extensive experience Chevrolet engineers had gained racing the first-generation led directly to advances in second-generation Camaro steering, braking, and balance. Although it began its run with a number of high-performance configurations, as the 1970s progressed, the Camaro grew less powerful, succumbing, like many production cars of the era, to the pressures of tightening emissions regulations and a fuel crisis. Major styling changes were made in 1974 and 1978; 1981 was the final model year for the second-generation Camaro. Only minor appearance changes highlighted the 1976 Camaro, most notably a brushed metal insert in the rear tail section on the LT model. The 250 cubic-inch six-cylinder remained the standard engine in the sport coupe and a new 140-horsepower 305 cubic-inch V8 became the standard engine in the LT and base V8 option in the sport coupe. The larger 350 cubic-inch V8 was now only available with a four-barrel carburetor and 165 horsepower. Power brakes became standard on V8 models this year. The Camaro's popularity was soaring. Sales totals jumped significantly for 1976, the best year yet for the second generation, and were to improve even more dramatically as the decade progressed. Love it or loathe it, the Camaro is one of the most popular muscle cars ever produced. For years, these cars got more exposure than the gang from Orange County Choppers, but today it seems they've fallen on hard times, suffering the cost of that 15 minutes of fame Andy Warhol warned everyone about. This Camaro is simply in outstanding overall condition. The paint is absolutely beautiful as well as the interior. The engine compartment is very clean along with the trunk. Looking at the undercarriage, you will see that it is very clean and rust free with what looks to be new dual exhaust. All gauges, lights and instruments are in good working order. The Camaro starts, stops, shifts, runs and drives down the road excellent. Remember, in 1975 and 1976, Chevrolet did not make any Z28 Camaros so this was the best you could get. Consider, there are tons of Z28 Camaros out there but try to find another Camaro like this and in this beautiful overall condition. If they are out there, I haven’t seen them. Just look at the photos. The paint and trim is as good as it gets. The front and rear bumpers are in very good condition as well. The door handles and the side mirrors are also in very good condition. Marker lights, tail lights and bezels are all very good with no cracks or pitting. All glass is considered to be in very good condition with no cracks. Interior: The interior is also excellent. No issues with the seats, door panels, headliner or dash. The carpet is also good with rugs front and back. The center console looks great with no cracks or staining. Lower seat belts are present and in good condition. Door locks and windows are in good working order with good window whiskers and weather stripping. There are two sets of keys. Engine: The original VIN stamped factory installed 1976 Camaro RPO LM-1 5.7-liter (350ci/175bhp) engine block sits in the engine bay. At some point, the heads, intake, carburetor and exhaust manifolds were replaced for better performance. I do not have the original parts. Power steering and power assisted brakes are present and functioning properly. A battery shut off switch was installed and a battery tender plug is already wire in and the battery tender will go with the sale. There are no messy engine leaks or annoying exhaust puffing sounds within this Camaro’s engine compartment and the overall look is clean and neat in appearance. Transmission: I took a few transmission photos when the Camaro was on the lift but I simply can’t make them out. It may or may not be original. However, the transmission appears to be recently rebuilt but I have no documentation of that either. What I do know is that there are no leaks or funny noises and transmission shifts up and down through the gears as it should with no issues. Rear Axle: The rear axle appears to be the original 10-bolt 3:08 posi unit. There are no funny noises, clunking or leaking observed. Electrical: All exterior lights are in good working order to include the headlights, tail lights, running lights, blinkers and the plate light. All interior lights are also in good working order to include the dash lights, blinkers and console gauge lights. The heater, wipers, horn and all gauges are completely functional. A newer and functional AM/FM/CD radio has been installed in the original radio opening without cutting the dash. Trunk: The trunk is in very good condition. There is a non-original spare. The jack assembly is present put the jack cradle is missing. There is a car cover, that I have not even taken out of the, bag that will go with the car. Mechanical: The power steering and power brakes to include the emergency brake work correctly. The suspension is very good. The 1976 Camaro starts, shifts and drives down the road like it owns it. Undercarriage: The undercarriage is very nice showing no signs of rust or rot. The 2.5” complete exhaust system looks to be new and sounds outstanding. Look at the extensive undercarriage photos which will display the undercarriage condition better than any description that I can conger up.
