Vehicle Detail
Relisted due to non paying buyer. Non paying buyer as been reported to ebay. Rare P38 Range Rover, only 16 made for the special event VERMONT TREK 97. This one was even rarer because it was used for the photo shot for the event. Just passed smog.Out of the sixteen TREK two of them were totaled during the event, mine is one of the 14 that survived the event and were sold to private parties, wonder how many are still alive today. The last picture shows the truck in its original state before it was converted into a Vitesse.A little bit of history now. The sixteen P38 TREK went to the SPECIAL VEHICULE OPERATION for modification in Solihull England to be prepared for the VERMONT SAFARI. They used the VITESSE special edition as a base to convert to a TREK.This is what they performed:A special plate was installed under the gas tank as seen on picture to protect it.Also it came with a winch and you can still see the winch box fuse under the hood, but it (the winch) has been removed. There is also a kill battery switch that was put for the event.Expedition roof rack and ladder.Came with yellow painted TRIPLE SPORT WHEELS.Yellow painted rubber bumper and side molding. It came with stickers for the event, VERMONT 97 TREK and Land Rover etc..all over the truck. You can still see the stickers inscriptions on the bonnetPrevious owner converted it to a Vitesse (what a shame) because he didn't like all the stickers so he removed all of them, he put black rubber bumper/side molding, swap the yellow painted TRIPLE SPORT WHEELS for mondial wheels like the Vitesse, removed the winch and its support and removed the roof rack and its ladder. This is a daily driver that is mechanically sound, needs nothing to drive from east to west coast if you need.It was converted to spring suspension but if you want to put it back on air everything is there, valve block/new compressor/air drier, and I and can give the lucky buyer 4 new aftermarket airbag and brand new air pipe that are better than the original stiff ones (was probably the main problem).Never been in a accident, no rust, built like a tank, if you have some knowledge about the P38 you know that these truck were overbuild, using new soldering techniques to stiffen the chassis and very good quality materials that age very well.It is as of this day the strongest Range Rover ever built, BMW, FORD and TATA really went south in quality and north in pricing. Really too bad..Paint looks good at 10 feet, then you can see some imperfections, some due to the previous owner when he removed the ladder (there are two cover up holes on the tailgate and two small holes cover up on the roof, proof that the ladder was attached there. On the hood you can still see the sticker and its inscriptions and it is faded.Roof needs paint too. Some spot that needs paint where the sticker were.Passenger seat needs some sawing but leather is not cracked, same on the driver seat as you cans see on the picture the top misses a few stitches. Well just stuff you would expect for a 20 years old vehicule.Back seat are like new with no issues.Wood trim is like new.Spare tire and wheel like new.Carpet has no issue.Very rare yellow leather steering wheel, it was a $1500 options.Just replaced right muffler.Recent radiator and one year old battery. Brake accumulator just replaced. Will be smoged for the lucky buyer.Genuine radio/cassette with CD player and 6 cd changer magazine, sub woofer from the factory, very powerful.Headliner is brand new too. Sunroof is not working but no leak.Ice cold AC, just serviced with new freon last month.Dash is a little cracked by heat next to the windshield but I can have it replaced with a like new one.For the person who wants to convert it to its original state I can source (but you pay for the parts) the roof rack, wheels, and the stickers can all be reproduced for a modest sum of money by a professional in San Francisco. Only thing I cannot find is the winch. This P38 back in its original TReK edition and in mint condition is worth $40,000.00 minimum.Clean title in hand with registration good until 2018.NOW A LITTLE BIT OF HISTORY ABOUT THE TReK EVENT below.TReK is still KingBut first, a bit of history: TReK had its beginnings in 1996 as a team building event for the still fledgling Land Rover North America. Bob Burns, Training and Development Manager Off Road Programs for Land Rover North America created TReK as a way to: "test employees' mettle, ability to work as part of a team and Land Rover vehicle knowledge." The idea was to "infuse the people who interact with Land Rover customers with product and brand knowledge and a level of four-wheel drive expertise not seen from any other automotive manufacturer".In creating TReK, Burns looked at the then going strong Camel Trophy and patterned TReK after it. The idea was to create a mini Camel Trophy event where 3-person teams from individual Land Rover dealerships competed over 2 days in a wide array of events. In a 2 day event, TReK could not hope to include the 1000-mile drives of the Camel Trophy; instead it focused on the Trophy's special tasks competitions. The parallel to the Trophy was more than just skin deep, Burn's crew of off pavement driving instructors were (and are) Trophy veterans.TReK struck a chord within the Land Rover family and according to Land Rover executives "there is practically a stampede among Land Rover Retailers to enter TReK." To accommodate all the teams that want to compete, TReK is held in waves. Each wave pits retailers from the same geographical area against each other, encouraging a bit of friendly cross town rivalries. The winners of each "regional wave" return to face one another in the TReK finals. The first TReK was held in 1996 in Georgia on a 300 acre farm owned by Atlanta Land Rover dealer Mark Hennessey. The event used Discovery Series Is and was won by the hometown team of Land Rover North Pointe. The very next year, TReK'97 moved to the Tinmouth hunting reserve in Vermont. The vehicle used was the then "new" 4.6 Range Rover HSE. The folks from LR North Pointe repeated adding a 2nd TReK trophy to their dealership's mantle.
