Vehicle Detail
First let me say that this is not my car. I am auctioning this 1981 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray for a good friend who doesn’t do eBay. The car is located in Rockland, Maine. If you would like or need more information please contact me through eBay and I will do my best to answer your questions. I understand that there is a lot of information in my ad. I also understand that this may be boring to the person who is just looking and not buying. However, for the person who is looking to buy and spend their hard earned money, I feel that there is never too much information. As to myself, I am not a dealer, just a (66) year old kid that loves muscle cars. For my work, I am now retired from managing a Correctional Facility here in Maine and had worked for the Maine Department of Corrections for (40) years. I am also a respected member of my community. I mention this so that prospective buyers will have some idea as to who they are dealing with. Also, please check out my eBay feedback as I have only one negative feedback which I believe I should not have received but you be the judge. Bidders with zero feedback must contact me prior to bidding or I will cancel their bid. NO EXCEPTIONS on this. INTERNATIONAL BIDDERS ARE WELCOME WITH A DOWN PAYMENT VIA PAYPAL AND THE BALANCE VIA WIRE TRANSFER ONLY. First a Little Corvette History: Very few vehicles elicit the same kind of satisfaction as the Chevrolet Corvette. The ‘Vette is a symbol of childhood dreams and grown up triumph. The only true American Sports car, this car stands for excellence and became an icon as a high-performance and dynamic sports vehicle. The 1968 Corvette was introduced as the new Stingray (now branded as one word versus the previous two-word Sting Ray), the C3 later became known as the “shark,” thanks to its long shape and aggressive styling. A “transitional” generation for the Corvette, this model saw some big changes from ’68 to ‘82 including a smaller block engine and less horsepower due to new regulations. By 1973, the material composition had also changed to include less traditional fiberglass and more lightweight plastic. The longest span of all the generations, this period proved the popularity of the car was still going strong—in fact, the 58,307 sales in 1979 remains the Corvette’s annual sales record. Afraid of making the wrong decision in an engine? If so, 1981 was the year for you to buy a Corvette. Only one engine was available on the 1981 model, a small-block 350-ci V8 rated at 190 horsepower. Your only decision would be manual vs. automatic transmission. You might have wanted to go with the manual transmission, as it would be the last available until the end of 1984. Perhaps Chevy only had one engine so as not to confuse the two different plants that were building it. For the only year in its history, the Corvette was built simultaneously at two different places: St. Louis, MO and Bowling Green, KY. The major difference between cars built at the two locations was in the exterior, as St. Louis used lacquer paints and Bowling Green applied enamel paint with a clear top coat. Chevrolet introduced the CCC Computer Command Control for the 1981 Corvette. The system used multiple inputs to monitor fuel and air mixtures along with spark and timing to reduce emissions, and to meet the CAFE mileage requirements. You can see the video here: You will be hard pressed to find another 3rd Generation Corvette that is this loaded, this clean, this rust free, this original with only 69,761 original miles logged in a NO RESERVE auction. Look around and then come back and look at this one. Here is what this 1981 Corvette Stingray has: 1. Believed to be Original Drivetrain; 2. Believed to be Original Paint; 3. Believed to be Original Interior; 4. Clear Original T-Tops; 5. Power Seats; 6. Power Windows; 7. Power Door Locks; 8. Cruise Control; 9. A/C; 10. LH Remote Mirror; 11. Power Steering; 12. Power Brakes; 13. AM/FM Stereo with Rear Speakers and Fader; 14. Believed to be Original Mag Rims. VIN Number: 1G1AY8760B5102659 · 1981 · G General Motors · Chevrolet · A Restraint System. Base Coat Clear Coat Engine: Believed to be the original 350ci/190hp engine that has never been out of the car. Appears to have all original engine components still intact. The engine starts and runs good with no overheating or funny noises. Refer to the photos and video. Transmission: The transmission is believed to be the original Turbo 400 that shifts up and down the gears fine. Exterior: The exterior appears to be the original enamel paint with ne cracks in the fiberglass noticed. It is considered driver quality. The clear T-tops can be removed with ease and are in good condition. The bright work is also driver quality. All glass is in very good condition. Tires and what is believed to be the original rims, are in very good condition. Interior: The leather interior is believed to be original and in good condition overall. The dash has no rips or tears. Door panels are in fair to good condition as well as the console. Door locks, power windows and power seats are in good working order. One sun visor needs a new attaching bracket but the visor is there. Undercarriage: The undercarriage is outstanding with a perfect frame, birdcage and floors. There is only surface rust noticed that could be easily cleaned up. It looks to have had new brake lines installed and still has a catalytic converter. The exhaust system is in fair condition. Electrical: All exterior lights work to include the brake lights, blinkers and backup lights. The headlights do work. Interior lights to include the overhead light work. All gauges work to include the speedometer, tachometer, oil gauge, engine temperature gauge, oil temperature gauge, fuel gauge, oil pressure gauge and alternator gauge. The horn, wipers and heater all work. The Corvette AM/FM stereo radio works to include the front and rear speakers and fader knob. The power seats, power windows and power door locks are all functional. Mechanical: The hide-away headlights do not open and close with the switch but can be operated manually. There is an issue with either the switch, the actuator or vacuum hoses. The brakes are operational. I am unsure as to the emergency brake. The power steering is good with no issues. The suspension is OK but it is a Corvette if you know what I mean. Tires and rims are very good. The Corvette starts, shifts and drives down the road good. The A/C is not working but the previous owner stated that it was working fine when she purchased the Corvette in the early ‘80’s. The belt is off but the pump turns freely. An upgrade to R22 or R-410A is needed. ID Photos: I am an individual and do not claim to know everything there is to know about these cars. It is your responsibility to ensure that all of you questions or concerns are resolved prior to bidding and not after. WINNING BIDDER DOES NOT HAVE THE OPTION TO LOOK THIS CAR OVER AFTER THE AUCTION CLOSES TO DETERMINE WHETHER OR NOT THEY WANT TO BUY. INSPECTIONS "MUST" BE DONE PRIOR TO THE CLOSE OF THE AUCTION WITH NO EXCEPTIONS. Terms of Sale: This pre-owned vehicle is being sold "as-is, where is" with absolutely no warranties and/or guarantees either expressed or implied. Winning bidder must contact seller within (48) hours of auction close to confirm purchase by e-mail. A $500 non-refundable deposit is required within (3) business days of auction close. Remainder of selling price is due within (5) business days of auction end. All funds must be in the form of a cashier’s check, certified bank check, wire transfer or cash. If there is no confirmation, seller has the right to offer the vehicle to other bidders. Buyer is responsible for all transport costs. This auction and your bid/participation in this auction are binding contracts and will be dutifully, lawfully enforced. There is no Maine title for this 1981 Corvette as Maine does not issue titles for vehicles that are more than (15) years old. I have sold cars all over the country as well as Canada, England, Switzerland and Australia and have never had a problem. The car will come with a Bill-of-Sale, the Maine excise tax registration form signed over to the new owner and a copy of the Maine law regarding titles which is on a form issued by the Maine Motor Vehicle Department. THANKS FOR READING THIS AD. GOOD LUCK AND HAPPY BIDDING.
