Vehicle Detail

"SIMSON SUHL" Suhl is located in the southern part of the former East Germany, in the early 20s the company SIMSON manufactured also big luxurious cars, cycles and weapons. After second world war the Russians took over (because of weapon-manufacturing) and they founded the "Awto Welo" better known for AWO (means car and cycle company). Famous motorcycles beginning in 1952 up to 1962 (?) were the models AWO 425 T a single cylinder 250 cc, 12 hp, four stroke, crank-shaft drive touring model. Later the AWO 425 S (or also called SIMSON 425 Sport) was built, also single cylinder 250 cc, 15,5 hp, four stroke, crank-shaft drive but with more comfort in riding. The AWO 425 T is very similar to the BMW R 26 (after war model). Production of these beloved models was stopped around 1963 in favour of two-stroke MZ-models.
