This is a car that is sure to start breaking records in the collector car market. They are the coolest cars around. So fun to drive, so nimble and a true little stallion for your stable. This car is presumed based on the last two previous owners to have low miles even though the speedo was switched out some time ago I have receipts for some motor performance work that was done on the car back in 1997 in NY. They had wanted to beef up the motor more and Bored and Honed it .020. Check and recon the rods, checked all clearances and ring end gaps and cleaned and repacked the oil pump. In 2011 the power steering pump was R&R'd and the Rack and Pinion. The AC has been recharged and blows but not as cold as we would like and are looking into it. It has the tanneau cover a great 5 speed transmission that shifts nicely. Interior appears to be all original. The car sports an aerodynamic spoiler package and custom exhaust with headers. Nice newer radial tires for a good smooth ride. The 85 MPH speedometers were mandated by the NHTSA (due to a 1977 law related to the then 55mph speed limits) for model years 1980, 1981, and 1982. Actually, early production 1979 cars still exceeded the 85 mph standard, but by mid-year production, even 1979 models had the 85 mph applied to make sure all '80 model year (July/Aug production on) complied with the new government mandate. The mandate was finally lifted for the '83 model year. As a result of this regulation, ALL of the TR8 production (1980 through 1982) fell into these requirements. Some knowledge has it that at least 3 of the pre-production ACT TR8 Coupes built in 1979 also had the 85MPH speedos too. It was common to swap in the earlier TR7 130 and 140 MPH speedos into the TR8, including this one. The pop up headlights make and give it that stylish look. There are many stories of the TR8 though it only had a short lived life but they are akin to the Sunbeam Tigers in a way with that throaty V8 and short stance for this fun days out on the road. The car was manufactured by British Leyland through its Jaguar/Rover/Triumph division. Because of its outstanding performance, the TR8 was often dubbed the "English Corvette". Total World wide Production that can best be determined is around 2750, give or take a few. Very few genuine TR8's exist outside of the United States and Canada.
