The 1986 Corvette was a milestone car for a couple of reasons. First and most significant, it was the return of the Convertible after an 11 year hiatus! The second was that Corvette was chosen as the Official Pace Car for the Indy 500! To commemorate this event, all ’86 Corvette Convertibles were designated Indy Pace cars and came with decals that could be installed by the dealer or customer, as well as a commemorative plaque on the dash. The actual Pace Car was Yellow, but some of the festival cars were Dk. Red Metallic.

Other changes for ’86 included standard anti-lock brakes, a switch to aluminum heads, a new ant-theft system (VATS) which included a special pellet resistor imbedded in the key and the addition of a third high mounted brake light.
