Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is my 1971 Buick Skylark Custom. This is my personal daily driver that is registered and insured in my name. Its a 350 2 bbl with a T-350 trans. Everything work- lights, turn signals, wipers, horn. Everything except the cigarette lighter and the clock. It just passed a NYS inspection. Body and frame- The frame is solid and rot free. There are NO thin spots or areas of concern. It passes the "ball peen hammer test". The floors are solid with one small area of rot where the floor meets the drivers side kick panel. The trunk floor is solid but is very scaly with heavy surface rust. In the picture the trunk floor is wet as I just gave it a good washing. The body has all the typical rust you would normally find on an unrestored A body that has spent its life in the Northeast. The quarters are rusty as you can see in the pictures. The car was re-painted years ago, but at this point the paint is pretty much shot. The paint is chalky in some spots. There are plenty of scratches, nicks, chips and other assorted defects. The paint looks great if you stand back 20 feet and squint! Doors and fenders show rust as you would expect. I have a photobucket album with plenty of close up pictures. Just click the link below to see them- http://s482.photobucket.com/user/mr-trishield/library/1972%20Convertible?sort=3&page=1 The car rides on American Racing Torque Thrust style wheels with BFG 215/70-14 Radial T/A's. In the past couple years I did a lot of mechanical work. It has new Moog upper control arm bushings, Moog lower ball joints, sway bar bushings, new Monroe sensa-track shocks, new alternator, belts, hoses and radiator. New muffler and I just recently I installed a new Spectra Premium heater core. The brakes have been gone through and are in good working order. Front wheel bearings have been cleaned and repacked. Mechanically, it really needs nothing. The interior is fairly clean for untouched original upholstery. The front seat has a few split seams. The dash has been restored. All the gauge lenses were polished, all the instrument cluster lamps replaced. The plastic cluster was detailed and has had new wood grain installed. The dash looks brand new. The car still has its original AM radio which was restored and bench tested. Works fine, just needs a new speaker installed. The windshield has a "Z" shaped crack in it in the upper right hand corner. It happened about 2 years ago and hasn't spread since. The windshield passes NYS inspection as it doesnt enter the wiper area. The top goes up and down just fine. Motor and hydraulic pistons work as they should. The top has one rip in the drivers side sail panel. The well is in good shape. After a rain, there is less than a teaspoon of water in the well. The engine runs well but does use some oil. It needs valve stems seals for sure. If the car sits for a few days, you may notice some blue smoke on start up. I never took account of exactly how much oil it uses, I just check the oil frequently and add as neccesary. Other than that, the engine has no issues. No unusual noises, etc.. I rebuilt the 2 bbl carb, upgraded the ignition to Pertronix and got rid of the points. Its got a new dist cap, rotor, wires and plugs all as of approx 3000 miles ago. I also installed a new fuel pump, fuel hoses and a high pressure P/S hose. Starts right up every time. Even the choke works. All in all, its a good running, driving, dependable convertible. Its a fun car to just drop the top on and go fo a cruise to the beach. You can ppark it anywhere and dont have to worry about getting a scratch on it. Its a car that you can put plates on and start using right away while you fix it up. Ive had alot of enjoyment out of it. even my wife jumps in it to go to the store. Its literally a grocery getter! Ive got an itch for another Grand National, so its time to let this one go. I have a ton of parts for this car that are NOT INCLUDED but will make available to the new owner if he wants to work a deal out. I have new Tabco quarter panels, new rear outer wheel houses, disc brake conversion, 4 barrel intake and carb, a rebuilt 350 engine, power brake conversion, new chrome valve covers, to name just a few. The car is located on the south shore of Long Island approx 55 miles east of NYC. I would encourage anyone within driving distance to come look at the car in person. Buying an old car sight unseen is never a good idea. if your too far away, have your local car club member check it out for you. NY state does not issue titles on 1972 and older vehicles. The car has a clean NYS TRANSFERRABLE registration. I require a non refundable deposit of $200 within 24 hours of auction end. Balance to be within 10 days of auction close. I accept cash in person or certified funds for the balance (no Paypal). Please don't bid if you don't have the money readily available. I will store the car after full payment for a reasonable amount of time while you arrange transportation. If there is anything I didn't address in the description , or if you need more pictures, PLEASE email me. I will do my best to answer any questions to the best of my ability. Thanks!
