If you are reading this you are either already familiar with this car or are about to have an a-ha!!!! moment.I purchased this car about a year ago after test driving a 2008 viper and 2010 Corvette, both convertibles. I wanted a car that would give me as much excitement as I experience from riding my ducati super bike. I thought the viper was great fun but lacked amenities like power seat and power top. The Corvette was great and would have been in my driveway right now if I hadn't discovered the Crossfire SRT-6. I arranged to test drive an SRT that was for sale locally and was immediately impressed with the ride quality and speed of the car. It has as much excitement as the Corvette at less than half the price. The Corvette quarter mile time is 12.4 seconds compared to the SRT6 quarter mile time of 13.3 seconds. The 2010 Corvette is valued at $34,670 by the Kelley Blue book and the SRT6 is valued at $15,024. So for the price of the downpayment I was about to make on the Corvette I owned an SRT6 that made me every bit as happy. Not to mention the curb appeal and rarity of an SRT6, its subtle good looks garner attention, and, you are likely to be the only one in town to own one. It is also a unique car in that it is a hybrid of German hand built AMG drivetrain and Mopar muscle car genetics. This car will likely hold its value or raise in value over the years unlike the Corvette which will continue to lose value. So now you might ask me: If you love this car so much why are you selling it? And the answer: I liked it so much I bought another just like it. The long story: I bought this one last May, drove it for a month or two and found another with only 16k miles on it. So I bought it intending to garage this one for my son who will turn 16 in a couple years. Unfortunately I am in between jobs and need to sell off some excess items, so this one will go. Besides it may be too much car for a new driver anyways, better safe than sorry. So that's the story. I bought it, loved it, bought a second just like it, now I have to sell it. I can't think of another car that I would spend $15k on that would give as much fun as this, I have owned a Porche 911 targa, MR2 Spyder, a couple Audi tt quatro (nice cars btw) and various other hot rods and such. It is based on the Mercedes Benz SLK rear wheel drive platform and is actually built in Germany in the plant that produces the current SLK; it even carries their 3.2 liter V6 engine. There is however a little difference in the Crossfire SRT6, “it was breathed on by good old Uncle Sam”. They’ve added a supercharger which enables the vehicle to accelerate from 0-60 mph in about 5 seconds, now that’s exotic car territory! Its SOHC 18 valve engine produces 330 hp and although quiet at low speeds, gives a pleasant growl when the accelerator pedal is pushed. The floor pan is from Mercedes Benz but Uncle Sam strengthened the underside, improving on the MB version and giving it class leading rigidity. The front suspension is a double wishbone setup with gas charged shocks. On the rear, independent coil springs with gas shocks again. This setup might not give the mind blowing handling of a Ferrari , but is more than adequate for the vehicle and supplies a better ride quality than some of its competitors. The car carries 18” wheels up front and 19” on the rear which certainly add a little something to the look of the vehicle. The SRT6 drives like an expensive European sports car, but you are constantly aware that what’s lurking underneath is a little out of the ordinary. No doubt, Chrysler’s exterior design team labored through the nights to bring us this stylish roadster. Uncle Sam’s technical wizards were possibly equally busy, fine tuning it into an awesome hot rod. The SRT 6 does however, boast race-inspired seats trimmed in Nappa Pearl Leather with Alcantara suede inserts and bolsters which glue you to the seat and are just perfect in a car with the performance of the SRT6. The instrumentation layout and illumination is pleasing to the eye and the controls are mostly conveniently placed; it also carries a rather nice stereo system. The SRT6 looks so good with the top down, it should be driven that way, even if the sun is just peeking out, and after all, it carries a great heating system.
