Vehicle Detail

Up for auction is my 1972 Buick GS-350 I bought as a unfinished project a couple years ago. VIN 4G37K2Hxxxxxx. As you can see by the VIn, it is a real GS. Built in Flint Michigan and sold new at Talley Motors on 8/24/72 in Valley Stream NY. It still has the dealer emblem on the trunk. Its Hunter Green with a sandlewood top and interior. Its a 350 Cubic inch 4 ballel, T-350 trans with an 8.5" 3.08 10 bolt open rear axle. Mileage is 130k. Original options were- A/C, convienience group, 15" chrome plated wheels with G60-15 Polyglas tires, Vinyl top, P/S, P/B, tinted glass, sport mirrors, tilt wheel and deluxe steering wheel. It is 1 of 5526 Buick GS-350 autommatic hardtops made in 72 and is 1 of only 585 total GS's painted Hunter Green. Out of those 585, only 134 coupes came from Flint painted Hunter Green. Car comes with all the original dealer paperwork- dealer sales invoice, bill of sale, warranty with protect-o-plate, the original "production body order final", aka the build sheet and all maintenence records going back to the 1970's. I have a copy of Duane Heckman's reproduction build sheet and full decoding which I will include. Car has been sitting since 2005. Maintenece records show the car had 128,613k miles in 1999. So the car has only traveled less than 1800 miles since. And I bet most if not all of those 1800 miles were put on around 1999. So its been sidelined for quite a while Driveline- Engine was tuned up- new points and wires. Timing adjusted. New oil and filter. Carburetor has been rebuilt with ethanol compatible parts. New fuel pump, new rubber lines all the way back to the tank. Engine runs well, doesn't smoke, doesn't make any unusual noises, no valve train noises. The only issue it has is a slight exhaust leak where the pipe connects to the manifold. Trans sifts well and fluid is a bright cherry red. Front end parts are tight. Car has dual exuast with new Walker tailpipes. Tires are 205/70-14 Firestone Firehawk SS mounted on 14" Buick Rallye wheels. Tires have plenty of tread and are in like new condition. I'm not sure what happened to the original 15" wheels, but I got the car with the 14"s. Brakes are power drums. Brakes were gone through. New disc brake master cylinder (in anticipation of a front disc conversion), new steel lines from the prop valve back to the wheel cylinders, new rear flex hose. Brake fluid flushed and shoes adjusted. Brakes work well. Body- The car was re-painted probably 30 years ago in lacquer. Paint is basically shot at this point. At some point in the cars past, a used left quarter panel was installed. They seamed it about 3 inches above the vinyl top molding. They didn't do a very good job as the seam is very visible under the vinyl. There is rust and rot under there at this point. Rear window leaks (I think they all do!), so the trunk will fill with water if the car gets wet. The body has all the typical rust and rot that you would normally find on a car that lived its life in the northeast. It will need all the replacement sheet metal common to these cars. Quarter panels, rear inner and outer wheel houses, doors, fenders, and radiator core all show the typical rust and rot you would expect to finds on an unrestored A body. The top of the frame horn where the radiator support bushing goes is rotted as well. The good news is that the floors are in unusually excellent original condition and the trunk pan is brand new. The floors are surprisingly very solid showing only some minor surface rust- see pictures. They are literally like the day they were put in. When I bought the car, the trunk floor had already been cut out and removed by the prior owner. I installed a new trunk pan. It was an amateur installation (Im not a professional welder nor do I claim to be any sort of bodyman). I did my best. I would consider it a good amatuer, driveway installation. Its been primed, seam sealed and brush painted in satin black so it wouldnt rust. Not trying to hide anything with the new paint, just trying to protect the new metal. All that left to do is give it a coat of trunk spatter paint. If your going to do a concours, frame off resto, you might want to consider re-doing the trunk installation to a more 'professional" standard. The front bumper is a re-chrome and in perfect shape. The rear bumper is very clean with excellent, rust free rubber surrounds Interior- Interior is original and complete less carpet, headliner and package shelf. I would consider the interior presentable. There ae no outstanding defects in the upholstery, its just 42 years old. Dash pad has no cracks and is in excellent condition. Aside from the worn woodgrain, the cluster is in good shape. I polished all the gauge lenses and did a light cosmetic restoration on the original Am radio. The plastic of the deluxe steering wheel is cracked but Im sure the new owner will upgrade to a GS wheel. All in all, the car is a decent, running and driving GS. Your not going to scare your neighbors parking it in the driveway. The car would make a fun daily driver or would be a good restoration candidate. Its a car you can put plates on right away. drive and have fun with from day one. I have a Photobucket album with over 50 close ups of the car. Please click here to see them----> http://s482.photobucket.com/user/mr-trishield/library/1972%20Buick?sort=3&page=1 If you have ANY questions regarding condition or if there is something I haven't addressed or taken a picture of to your satisfaction in the auction, PLEASE email me. The only stupid questions are the ones not asked. I will try and answer any questions you have promptly. Buying a car sight unseen is never a good idea and I don't recommend it! If you are within driving distance, i would highly recommend looking at the car in person. that way there are no surprises. If that's not possible, have a club member or friend in the area look at it for you. There are plenty of Buick guys in the area that can inspect the car for you. I am located on the south shore of Long island approximately 55 miles east of NYC, very close to Islip, MacArthur airport TERMS- please only bid on the car if you have the money readily available. Please Do NOT bid on the car on a whim and them decied afterwards that you dont want it!! This isnt a game. Im tired of having to list a car three times to get a serious buyer. I'm not interested in any trades. Bidders with a zero. low or negative feedback will get thier bids deleted. I require a non refundable deposit of $200 via Paypal within 24 hours. The balance to be paid in cash on pickup or certified funds via FedEx prior to pickup ONLY (NO PAYPAL) within 10 days Otherwise the car will get relisted. This is very important- NY State does not issue titles for 1972 and older vehicles. A 1972 car will have a transferrable registration like this one does. Please research this for yourself beforehand so you don't think I'm trying to pull a fast one on you. That's just the way it is here. I give you the vehicle's registration, you sign the back and give it to your local DMV. I will hand write out a bill of sale for you. Although the car runs and drives well, it has been off the road for almost 10 years and hasn't been driven since 1999. I would not trust it on a trip just yet outside of the county, let alone out of state. So plan on trailering it home to be safe. I will hold the car for a reasonable amount of time while you arrange transportation. Thanks for looking and good luck! On Jun-03-14 at 14:53:10 PDT, seller added the following information: I wanted to add a few extra pictures of the car in the direct sunlight to make sure everyone gets an accurate representation of the condition. Some of the pictures above look a little dark to me and I didn't want anyone to think there was a reason for it. As you can see, the front seat has no rip or tears. Despite the faded paint (which still has a shine in some spots) I think its still a very pretty car. Please don't forget to click on the Photobucket link in the description above for detail shots. I would also like to add that the air conditioning system is complete and intact although not working. according to the maintenance records, the last service was performed in 1999 when it received a new condenser and a re-charge. I hooked up my old set of R12 gauges and the charge is weak. The gauges showed only 20 lbs. So the good news is that there is still some pressure in there after 15 years. I'd guess that a re-charge may be all that's in order.
