Vehicle Detail
Up for auction is a rare Fox Thunderbolt from the 1970's era, we believe it is a 1973. This bike is more of a Mini Cycle and is rare as they were made by the Fox Corporation. As seen in the video above, the bike runs great, does not smoke. The engine is nice and tight; after removing the head for inspection there was no carbon, oil residue, etc. We rescued this great bike from the back of a warehouse where it had been covered up for the past 30 plus years. It was dirty and dusty but once we got it home and cleaned up we really could see the beauty of the bike as well as the great shape it was in. So, we did what we just love to do with classic and vintage bikes, we brought it back to life. For those of you who have checked out the bikes we have had the pleasure of building over the years, you know we typically start from the bare frame up, media blasting, etc. This little beauty was no different! We painted this bike with automotive black base coat/clear coat. The tank's decals were custom made by a local shop and clear coated over to protect them from any fuel spills. There is some texture to the decals as a result of the clear coat used for protection but they still look very nice. As we had extra sets of the decals made we are including one extra set for the winner. Many new parts went into this bike such as a Comet driven clutch and belt. Rear shocks are new as are the jack shaft, bearing, chain, pet cock, grips and foot rubbers. All engine gaskets and seals were replaced with new. The bike also has a new carb, air filter, points, condenser and plug. As we did not want to install a plastic torque converter cover we went on the hunt for a vintage steel mini bike cover and we found one that fits the bike very nicely. All cables are nice. The exhaust shield is a nice factory item. The factory exhaust pipe appears to been repaired at one time but it looks solid so we left it alone. The bike still had the nice factory seat. Due to a small little hole we had our expert install a new piece of material on the back of the seat. The quality of the work is outstanding. Both fenders are original and are surprising close to being brand new. The Thunderbolt has a nice Tecumseh 5HP engine. Engine number on the tag is HS-50-67042 with 3075B directly under it. Check out the really cool vintage Fox factory leading link front end. I know it really caught our eyes! For those of us that grew up in the 60's and 70's we certainly remember these bikes and for most of us wished we could own one. Well this is certainly an opportunity for one lucky person to fulfill their childhood wish. It would also be a nice addition to any collection and most likely would win a few awards or at least a whole of looks at the bike shows. Don't miss this opportunity to own this rare minicycle. Our reserve is low and we are excited to be able to offer it for sale. If you would like to see some of prior work be sure to visit our website mayerbrothers.net. We have many pictures of the bikes we have built over the years on our site so you can get a good idea why we say "it is our passion to bring these bikes back to life".
