Vehicle Detail

1951 BMW R 67.............VIN: 610067.....Matching Numbers in all three places..... Production numbers: Production numbers begin with 610001.....There were a total of 1470 units produced...That's it! So...As poetic justice would have it, this is the 67th R 67 produced! Anyway... This motorcycle was owned by a family member who was forced to terminate his motorcycle enthusiasm due to the relentless aging process, complicated by increasing health issues... Since his subsequent passing, we have been, very slowly, placing the contents of his shop back into circulation for the benefit of his widow... We may not have all of the answers, but we will do what we can to encapsulate our recollections and observations to the best of our ability... That having been said, the following observations represent the downside of things as we see them.....The mileage can't possibly be correct, the odometer clocking 2700 miles... Although the kick starter depresses smoothly, and seems to show plenty of compression, this bike has not been ridden, much less started in several years, and may require a little TLC to get it to fire up... Although the sheet metal and fender stays all appear to be straight and relatively clean, save for a medium sized scrape on the lower right portion of the rear fender... The front fender is incorrect... In other words, the elephant ear / bell type fender went away at some point, and was replaced with a later model... The rims, spokes, nipples, and hubs have all been painted gloss black, and even though it looks kind of cool, it's not correct... The top of the fork tubes, both left and right, each have a dent. The right side is fairly subtle, the left side, not so much...The left headlamp bucket "ear" is tweaked slightly... The green lens on the headlight bucket is a bit bent in and the rear tail light lenses are cracked, with the tail light housing getting a chrome job at some point, again, not correct... The seat block is a bit sloppy, and the saddle itself has been re-covered with a leather seat cover...The right side air tube rubber is missing the clamp... The gas cap is dented and has a bit of pitting... The paint is serviceable enough, though it is clear that it has had numerous "touch ups" over the years... The tires, Metzlers, look to be fairly new, but have to be at least ten years old, and although not cracked, please be advised... And, of course, there are the requisite bits that tend to go missing...No battery... No toolbox hex key...No steering lock key... No shop rag... No book... There are tools in the toolbox, and they may be original to the bike, but they appear to be both very dirty, and very rusty..... The following observations represent the upside of things as we see them..... This machine represents 1 of only 1470 total units produced..... In other words, an exceptional candidate for an eventual ground up restoration..... Meanwhile, while you begin to tinker a bit with it, and begin planning your restoration process, you can ride around on it a bit... Matching numbers in all three places... As previously stated, the kick starter depresses smoothly, without any issues... The pushrod tube rubbers seem fairly fresh... The sheet metal and fender stays are all straight, and fairly clean... The fuel tank, although a bit scuffed in places, is absolutely dent free... The headlight bucket, likewise, is without any blemish, save for a bit of oxidation...The speedo bezel and head light ring are clean, as is the speedo lens... Many of the chrome bits, are better than fair, and although the switches have probably seen better days cosmetically, they are still tight, with the handlebars, steering dampener knob, and knurled fork tube nuts shining brightly... The header pipes look great, and finish off with shiny fishtail silencers... The hinge on the toolbox is nice and tight, the tire pump is present, and after market add ons include a pair of older Stadium mirrors, and a very cool rear mounted side stand.....This machine is pretty much the way it was when it rolled into our uncle's shop... He acquired it as a rider, that would eventually become a ground up restoration project... Perhaps it will become the same for someone else to enjoy..... Make no mistake... Although this machine looks pretty good in the photographs, there is an unquestionable patina of age and use present.......... PLEASE do bear that in mind if you plan to engage in the bidding process ...................This sale / auction goes forward AS IS / WHERE IS, with no warranties or guarantees either expressed or implied... The shipping and / or transport is to be the sole responsibility of the buyer, however, I will be happy to assist in the coordination and / or logistics..... For interested parties with 2 or less positive feedback, please contact me in advance of bidding..... All others with 2 or less positive feedback will be blocked or deleted Thanks for looking!... And have a nice day
