Vehicle Detail

1972 Suzuki TM-250J Champion Originally a strong running, low hour bike that I completely restored in 2001. No money spared in its restoration. All aluminum was polished, frame powder coated and the fuel tank was professionally repainted in the original factory colors and clear coated The bike has been housed indoors in a climate controlled facility for the past 12 + years. It has not been started or ridden during this time but the motor has been kicked through and the top end was lubed periodically. Please let me know if you need any other photos for your perusal. Body: The bike was perfect until a carb fell off a shelve last month and dented the tank and chipped the paint. The gas tank has excellent cond. and very hard to find OEM tank badges, chrome gas cap that still has the warning decals and all OEM mounting hardware. The airbox has all of the original impossible to find retaining clips in place and all new rubber grommets were used. The Frame: Stock unmolested, unmodified frame and swing arm with no repairs or issues. After bead blasting the frame and inspecting it for any cracks or damage it was Powder Coated in original black with a little more gloss added to the finish. All black ancillary frame parts were powder coated with the frame at the same time to make sure the color shade matched. Swing arm bearings and steering stem bearings were replaced. OEM re-chromed handlebars with new Scott grips, OEM controls, kill switch and throttle were added, along with brake, clutch and throttle cables. The seat has new foam and a high quality after market seat cover. The fork triple clamps and fork lowers were polished. New OEM front and rear plastic fenders were added and the unique impossible to find number plates for the front and side include all OEM mounting items and decals. Wheels: Both are straight and true. I used OEM Akront rims and polished them to a correct shine. New Buchannon spokes and nipples were added as were a brand new set of Bridgestone MX series tires and tubes. Both hubs were bead blasted and painted black. New bearings were installed. The front brake pads will need replacing soon and rears brake pads are new. I have close to $400.00 invested per each wheel. Suspension: Front, Stock TM front end. The lowers are polished, no rust on the straight upper fork tubes. Rear, OEM shocks, No leaks and clean straight shafts. Springs were powder coated to match the frame color. Engine*: This motor came to me as a running motor and has not been rebuilt. The top end was removed to confirm that it’s still on the std. size piston and bore. The transmission shifts through all 5 gears. New top end gaskets were installed and the ignition and primary covers were blasted to freshen up the factory black finish before being reinstalled with new gaskets. A set of allen head screws were used to replace the stock Phillips head screws. The OEM pipe was smashed up so I picked up a new custom made replica aftermarket pipe that matched up the closest in size and style to the stock exhaust in order to keep the same lines as the original. The pipe is a work of art. The carb is OEM and may need cleaning after sitting for so long. *The first three or four bikes I restored using powder coating were re-assembled without exposing the motor mount/engine area and the coil to a bare frame by scratching off a little bit of the thick power coat so it could have metal to metal grounding. Since this bike was built as a static display bike for my collection I have not taken the time to fix this issue. It was the first time I tried powder coating. I re-assembled all 4 of the bikes during the same time frame and didn’t realize this issue until I spoke to someone who made the same mistake. The motor and coil should be clearly grounded to the bare frame for the bike to produce a proper spark. This should be all that is needed for spark. When having the tank repaired, it would be the perfect opportunity to grind off the coating at the upper coil mount and motor mounts. Shipping: The bike will be shipped with all fluids drained, and sold as is where is. This 41 year old bike does not have any warranties expressed or implied. I can provide a bill of sale if needed, no title is available for this bike. It is clear of any legal leans. Also included are a parts and service books and the original owners manual, along with magazine tests and receipts for parts purchased, ect. I will not crate this bike but will drive it to Forward Air for the cost of tie downs for their crate, pad locks to secure it and gas money for the 100 mile round trip. I will also transport/drop off to other shipping companies in my immediate area (Seattle/Tacoma/Olympia) for the cost of gas. You the buyer will have to make all shipping arrangements with the respective shipping companies. I will also make myself available to meet with your shipper for pick up at my home or in my area as they are passing through my area. I will accept foreign bidders but will not get involved in any overseas shipping or import/export issues. I am open to any suggestions or option you may have as long as they don’t take me a week’s time to deal with it! So please don’t ask me how to ship this overseas. SHIPPING OVERSEAS WILL BE THE BUYERS RESPONSABILITY. Payment by winning bidder will require a non refundable Pay Pal deposit of $250.00 immediately at close of auction. No exceptions. We can discuss payment of final balance to include Pay Pal, or cash prior to pick up. I will store the bike for a reasonable amount of time in order for you to arrange shipping or to wait for your shipper to be in my area. The payment will have to be made in full before the release of the bike to your shipper.
